As part of our ongoing 50th anniversary celebration, we're taking a look at the defining projects and pivotal moments that shaped Olea Kiosks into the company we are today. One of the most innovative spaces we’re working in is biometric kiosk design—a field that blends high security with high user expectations. Nearly a decade ago, our very first biometric project was an iris scanning kiosk for patient check-in at Novant Health. While we successfully integrated advanced iris scanning technology into our kiosk design, we quickly learned a critical lesson: biometric solutions are much more than hardware alone. Without a robust backend system to connect to, even the most advanced technology is ineffective. Since then, we've tackled biometric kiosk projects across healthcare, airports, stadiums, and restaurants—each presenting unique design challenges. From precisely angled fingerprint scanners to sophisticated facial recognition systems with depth mapping, each kiosk taught us invaluable lessons in usability, security, and human-centered design. The biggest insight? Biometrics aren't plug-and-play. Successful biometric solutions require strategic thinking, collaboration between hardware, software, and data systems, and careful planning for user experience. Today, we're proud to say biometric kiosk design continues to challenge and excite our team, pushing us to innovate and problem solve.
