"We are delivering on our promises" Yesterday, we hosted shareholders at our Annual General Meeting in Hørsholm, Denmark for a look at our performance in the first year of Novonesis and our priorities on the journey ahead. Cees de Jong, Chair of the Board of Directors, reflected on the past year for Novonesis: “Our first-year performance demonstrates that we are delivering on our promises. These achievements have laid a solid foundation for our future as we continue to enable a healthier planet and healthier lives through the power of biology. To our 10,000 employees around the world: You have been the true champions of this transformative year. Your dedication, resilience and unwavering commitment have not only ensured a seamless transition but have maintained uninterrupted, reliable service to our customers throughout a period of significant change. This achievement deserves the highest recognition.” Our CEO Ester Baiget also shared her thoughts at the meeting, including why Novonesis has the foundation for a bright future: “Our strengths are very clear: A deep customer and application understanding, a world-class innovation toolbox, a unique ability to scale up competitive biosolutions, and most importantly: 10,000 bright and dedicated minds. We are set for a bright future as a leading global biosolutions partner, and our journey has just begun. The time for biosolutions is now. We are committed to unlocking the limitless possibilities ahead,” she said.  The shareholder's meeting also saw changes in our Board of Directors, as board member Heine Dalsgaard was elected as Vice Chair for a one-year term, and Monila Kothari (IDP-C) was elected as a new member of the Board. Biosolutions: Creating climate impact with nature's own toolbox     In a new report by State of Green Denmark, a collection of cases shows the impact of biosolutions that reduce industrial waste, increase resource efficiency, and foster economic opportunities. In the report, Danish Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs Morten Bødskov shares his perspective: "The need to produce more with less impact on nature and climate has never been greater. By combining technology with biology, biosolutions can contribute to a greener and more sustainable world," he says.   Novonesis is mentioned for our work in collaboration with Carbios on recycling plastic using enzymes: "The new enzyme technology breaks down PET plastic into its original building blocks, which can be recycled into rPET (recycled PET) with the same high quality as virgin fossil-based plastic. This enables the recycling of plastic waste into everything from fleece sweaters to food-grade quality beverage bottles," an excerpt from the report reads. Showcasing innovative biosolutions at Food Ingredients China 2025   Last week, our colleagues in China engaged with customers and stakeholders at this year's Food Ingredients China (FIC) expo in Shanghai. It’s one of the largest expos within the food business with over 100,000 attendees within the sector, also attracting a great amount of overseas visitors. We showcased our portfolio of products, including biosolutions from both food health and planetary health segments and talked to visitors about how our biosolutions can help transform food systems and embarked on the journey of biotechnological innovation together with our partners.   Lensey Chen, Regional President, APAC, shared her thoughts:  "This is the second year of Novonesis, and we are increasingly feeling how customers turn to biosolutions to address their needs. On one hand, biosolutions enable optimization in food processing, reducing raw material and energy consumption while enhancing production efficiency. On the other hand, with consumers in different life stages, especially the younger generation, showing growing attention for health and shorter ingredients lists on products. With great team effort, we are bringing some exciting biosolutions with prototypes this year to engage customers in more in-depth dialogues. Novonesis is committed to driving innovation with the power of nature’s tiny but mighty microbes to meet diverse health needs and inject new vitality into the food and health industry's development," she says.   In China, Novonesis has six sites, including R&D labs, manufacturing sites and sales offices. How Novonesis is working with water recycling and reverse osmosis technology Today is World Water Day, and we would like to highlight the efforts of our colleagues to recycle and save water in our operations across the world.    At Novonesis, our sustainability ambition is to leave a positive impact on people and on the planet in everything we do. As part of our sustainability target regarding improving freshwater withdrawal, we're investing in water recycling technology across our business.     Last year, we continued implementing water recycling and efficiency projects. At our site in Kalundborg, Denmark, we have an ongoing nanofiltration and reverse osmosis project focusing on water recycling. The installed system has an estimated annual water saving potential of 200,000-300,000 m3 of water, and it also delivers energy savings while increasing our production capacity.  In 2025, we will implement this technology at two additional sites in U.S. and China, adding about 300,000 m3 new recycling capacity. Meet Ioanna, Industry Technology Specialist focusing on biosolutions for plant-based food In the video, our colleague Ioanna Anagnostara shares what she is focusing on in her daily work at our Food and Beverage Biosolutions team. For plant-based meat producers, improving the texture often means adding more ingredients, but that’s a challenge when 87% of consumers say they want short, recognizable ingredient lists. "Since consumers are demanding better texture and shorter ingredient lists, producers are approaching us to help fulfill these expectations. I provide technical support on every step of the way, from the first interactions with a customer to on-site lab and industrial-scale trials.
