Nice to visit my home state of Colorado earlier this week to present at the Energy Impact Partners Industrial Decarb Summit. I shared how Nitricity successfully built the capital stack for our first-of-a-kind plant with great partners (Elemental Impact, Trellis Climate) leading the way in #ImpactInvesting. With our FOAK plant, we will scale production and continue to deliver high-quality, sustainable fertilizers (with no green premiums) to local growers. 🌱🏔 Thank you to the team Energy Impact Partners for having me! #ColoradoClimateWeek

🎉 Big news! We are proud to support Nitricity as they take a major step toward scaling sustainable, organic nitrogen fertilizer production. With $10M in project funding—including funding from Elemental Impact and catalytic capital from Trellis Climate, among other climate investors—Nitricity’s first-of-a-kind (FOAK) plant in Delhi, CA will onshore fertilizer production, create local jobs, and transform agricultural waste into valuable, low-carbon nitrogen. 🌱 Traditional fertilizers contribute ~2% of global GHG emissions. Nitricity’s innovation tackles both production and on-field emissions, helping farmers access cost-competitive, organic alternatives while strengthening local economies. We believe first-of-a-kind climate infrastructure like this is essential for rapid decarbonization. By pairing innovative technology with deep community engagement, Nitricity is charting a path to scale. Congratulations to Nicolas Pinkowski and the entire team at Nitricity! 🔗 Read the full press release: https://lnkd.in/e9KQHUwU #CatalyticCapital #ClimateTech #FOAK #ImpactInvesting #RenewableEnergy

With your partnership, we’re excited to scale sustainable, organic nitrogen fertilizer production and provide farmers with cost-competitive alternatives. We’re thrilled to work on this impactful project that will create local jobs and is already sold out through 2028. Here’s to building a more sustainable future! 🌱

🌱 $10M in fresh funding for game-changing organic fertilizer facility 🌱 Traditional fertilizers = 2% of global emissions (like 170 million 🚗🚙 on the road). For organic growers seeking sustainable alternatives of domestically made fertilizer, options have been limited and costly. We're doubling down on Nitricity! Building on our initial 2022 investment that supported their Fremont facility and successful Central Valley field trials, this funding helps scale production to commercial volumes. "Nitricity proves sustainable fertilizer can be produced at scale while providing local economic benefits," says Danya Hakeem our VP of Portfolio. "As one of dozens of FOAKs we've funded, Nitricity is a perfect example of a maturing company that is ready to commercialize." The facility will create 20 jobs in Merced County — bringing deep local impact to this community — while transforming agricultural waste (almond shells) into valuable fertilizer. The market agrees with our confidence: production is already sold out through 2028! Shoutout to Nicolas Pinkowski and team for creating a solution that tackles both production AND on-field emissions — exactly the kind of climate innovation with community impact we've championed for 15 years. Fantastic recent crowd at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business ClimateCAP conference. Thanks to our moderator Adriana Penuela-Useche, we had a nice discussion about scaling climate-tech companies under a new administration. I expressed my view that, before diving into FOAK financing, securing robust offtake is essential. At Nitricity, locking in what we consider the gold-standard multi-year sales agreements has shaped our business model and unlocked the financing for our FOAK. I also urged everyone to look beyond the green premium and concentrate on establishing solid offtake structures around products designed to create value for customers.   I felt honored to share the stage with Rajesh Swaminathan he’s seen it all in VC and provided practical career advice to the students.   I’m sharing this photo (credit to Jenya Kirshtein's post) that captures the focused energy of the event.
