Like so many businesses here in Ohio, in March 2020 we faced a disruption unlike any our 50+ year old company had ever experienced before. Thankfully, we avoided layoffs and didn't furlough. Our employees continued to get paid and we met the needs of our customers. I’m so proud of what we accomplished together during this challenging time. That said, the experience jolted us into action and set in motion a journey to ensure that New Horizons Baking Company can remain resilient and capture the opportunities that are ahead. Founded in 1967 as the West Baking Company, New Horizons Baking Company, is a hamburger bun & English muffin producer for the largest QSR in the US. With two high speed food manufacturing facilities in Northeast Ohio and Northern Indiana, New Horizons produces quality products daily for over 5000 restaurants, food service facilities and wholesale establishments. The company has grown exponentially under the successful leadership of Tilmon (Tim) Brown since 1995. With substantial investments in capital projects and human capital resources New Horizons has labeled itself as “the Baker’s Baker” and supports a variety of iconic brand customers.

🔆 ASB Member Spotlight: Matt Bowers 🔆 Matt started his career at New Horizons in 1987 in shipping and production, loading trucks, before continuing on in operations management, product development, and sales. A graduate of the American Institute of Baking (AIB) Baking Science and Technology residency course in Manhattan Kansas in 1994, Matt has a passion for baking but today it is sharing that expertise with the next generation that has him fired up. His nearly 40 years in the industry affords him loads of experience and know-how, which he enjoys passing along to future bakers as a member of the Education Committee in addition to his service throughout the industry, including his role as sub-team leader on the McDonald’s Bakery Council. When Matt's not in the bakery or leading an initiative at ASB as a member of the Executive Committee and the incoming ASB Board Chair, you'll find Matt on the water or by a grill hanging out with family and friends. Matt can be quoted as referring to himself as a, "Bakers' baker," such as when he explained his role in the industry to legislators at the Bakers' Fly-in co-hosted with ABA/ASB/RBA. He works with others to bring their recipes to life for quality and excellence.
