Data format standardization sounds so dull, but it is anything but that! ANSI/NEMA C137.10 specifies a vendor agnostic data format for data produced by sensors installed on light poles. The intent is to allow streetlights to remain on during extreme weather. As an added bonus, it creates opportunities in the smart cities market. EC&M had a great cover story on this in its April 2025 issue. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/eVNk4Gzp

Missouri HB 939 would block local governments from adopting modern energy codes beyond the 2009 IECC. Chris Bresee, NEMA’s State Government Affairs Director, testified on behalf of NEMA to defend local decision-making and energy-smart building standards. We support broad adoption of the National Electrical Code and the International Energy Conservation Code because they’re foundational to grid resilience, lower energy costs, and long-term sustainability. Local leaders need flexibility to prepare for tomorrow’s energy demands—not restrictions that hold them back. https://lnkd.in/ePaVMe6j

Unlike many studies projecting a surge in electricity demand as the economy electrifies and data centers proliferate, NEMA’s April 2025 grid study highlights solutions to meet the growing demand. Tax policy and supply chain certainty along with grid investments in a key market ready technologies such as smart grids, digital substations and transmission line reconductoring can shore up grid capacity to meet shifting peak loads while the transmission/distribution networks are built out to accommodate new generation sources. https://lnkd.in/dg8Jb2Gh
