🤍 Being a trauma clinician in today’s world is increasingly complex. Between navigating our own traumas and losses while supporting clients through the ups and downs of their life experience, the truth is – we simply can’t insulate clinicians from the stressors of the job. That said, it is possible to prioritize building a better workplace for clinicians. That’s what we’re striving for at Nema: channeling the expertise of our team to create a workplace that puts clinicians first and empowers them with ongoing, built-in support. In her latest for Psychology Today, Isobel Rosenthal, MD, MBA, our Chief Medical Officer and co-founder, shares her advice for building a provider-led workplace and how it can help us be the best resources for our clients. Nema is thrilled to announce that we have two new board members: Jon Stout and Peter Shalek. Jon, who was previously a partner at Optum Ventures and the Chief Growth Officer at AbleTo, is now the President at Motivo Health, which solves clinical supervision for behavioral health organizations. Jon himself is a 9/11 survivor, and while the diagnosis didn’t have a well-known name back then, he has seen firsthand the impact of the mental health aftermath of such a harrowing trauma and the importance of high-quality care for it. Pete is a founder and operator who is currently the co-founder and CEO of Valerie Health, which uses AI to drive growth and streamline operations for specialty practices. Previously, he was the Chief Product Officer at AbleTo via the acquisition of Joyable, which he co-founded. Pete graduated from Columbia University and received his MBA from Stanford University. Pete has dedicated more than a decade of his life to improving access to evidence-based mental health care and supporting the clinicians who deliver it. We're so grateful to have both Jon and Pete be a part of Nema's very important mission!

The devastation of the LA wildfires is far from over: while the news may not be dominating our phones or social media feeds, the recovery and repair (both of homes and hearts) of survivors has just begun. As a PTSD treatment program, Nema sees it as our missional duty to show up for these survivors in the most effective way possible to help change the course of their lives for the better. We know that PTSD typically takes at least a month to show up clinically — and so we are ready to step in and help folks in their healing. We are doing so in a few ways: 🎗️ We have made donations of 5% of our monthly revenue to three organizations providing aid to vulnerable young people and firefighters in the aftermath of the fires: • Altadena Boys: Creating a fun, safe, and supportive space for Altadena Boys as they navigate through challenging times through experiences like sports camps, STEM workshops, and mental health and wellness sessions to help them grow and thrive. • CalFire Benevolent Foundation: Provides financial assistance for the public good, by participating with burn centers and providing disaster relief throughout the state of California to relieve the burden on families. The money raised goes directly to assist firefighters, their families, those that support firefighters, and to assist burn victims. • Los Angeles Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) (Firefighters Fund): There are nearly 1,000 incarcerated firefighters who've battled the Los Angeles fires. The LA ARC Firefighters Fund supports these unsung heroes with immediate needs such as ‘thank you’ meals, food trucks, hygiene supplies, clothing and equipment, new televisions, microwaves, gym equipment, and scholarship funds for individuals once they’re released for school supplies, housing, utilities, rent, and necessary equipment for those entering professional firefighting careers. ❤️🩹 Nema is also offering pro-bono care to five fire victims who may be experiencing PTSD and are not covered by in-network insurance. If you know someone who may benefit from this program, please reach out directly to Nema or encourage your loved one to inquire with us. We hope to remove any barriers to care to ensure these folks have access to immediate, effective care that will aid in their healing.

An unfortunate truth about PTSD is that children are not exempt — 16% of kids exposed to traumatic events will develop PTSD and can suffer for years if their symptoms go unnoticed. 🕊️ In the wake of the traumatic LA wildfires, Nema's Medical Director Isobel Rosenthal, MD, MBA breaks down how to show up for kids amidst all the confusion & fear in her latest for Psychology Today. She reminds us that routine, a sense of stability, and emotional safety are the best gifts we can offer after disasters like these. Read the full piece below 👇

As survivors of the devastating LA wildfires piece their lives back together, we know that part of the fallout will be facing the weight of trauma that people may endure for months to come. We believe this devastating event also requires collective aid, and in that spirit, we are offering a Community Webinar for those directly affected by the fires and their loved ones to learn about tools for emotional repair, managing potential PTSD symptoms, and helping navigate the complicated emotional aftermath of the fire disaster. This community event will be hosted by Nema trauma & PTSD-trained therapists and is open to the public. Please feel free to share and/or register below. https://lnkd.in/g4NSqp29

As humans in today’s society, trauma is nearly inevitable. Over 80% of Americans will experience a clinical trauma such as sexual or domestic violence, childhood abuse, or a natural disaster. For many, this will lead to PTSD, marked by debilitating symptoms like hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, social withdrawal, and heightened anxiety. With this Series A funding, led by our wonderful investors Deerfield Management alongside support from CVS Health Ventures, Optum Ventures, .406 Ventures, and GreyMatter, we’re doubling down on our commitment to empowering trauma survivors to find lasting peace. We know trauma can shape someone's story, but we also know that with the right support, survivors can reclaim vibrant, meaningful lives beyond PTSD. 🧡 https://lnkd.in/eqnYxDnN
