Research has shown that stereotypes contribute to achievement and opportunity gaps among racial, ethnic, gender, and cultural groups... and these stereotypes begin to form earlier than you may think! In a recently published study by Dr. Allison Master, Dr. Andrew Meltzoff, and Dr. Sapna Cheryan, the researchers found that stereotypes about girls’ interest in computer science and engineering are formed as early as age 6 and are evident across multiple ages from childhood through adolescence. The good news is there are practical ways to begin countering STEM stereotypes with children and youth. In this blog you will find five simple strategies to get you started breaking and preventing stereotypes and promoting equity in the sciences: https://bit.ly/3fz8aju

In our latest webinar, industry leaders and advocates discussed actionable steps to drive meaningful change. One key message stood out: it is time to move beyond encouragement and into action. While progress has been made, disparities still exist, and systemic change is necessary to create a lasting impact. Key Takeaways from the Webinar: 🔹 Representation matters – Girls need visible and relatable STEM role models to envision themselves in these fields. 🔹 Early exposure is crucial – Hands-on learning, mentorship, and interactive experiences spark curiosity and confidence in STEM. 🔹 Mentorship creates opportunities – Connecting young women with mentors who have navigated STEM careers helps bridge the gap between education and professional success. 🔹 Industry and education must work together. Schools, nonprofits, and companies must collaborate to provide real-world opportunities. 🔹 Systemic change is key – Beyond programs, we need policies that support equity in hiring, retention, and leadership roles. As we look ahead, we must ask ourselves: How can we take meaningful action to support the next generation of women in STEM? Watch the entire conversation to gain insights, be inspired, and join us in shaping the future of women in STEM! 📺 Watch now: https://bit.ly/4c7E9Af #STEMNeedsHER

Women belong in every space where innovation, discovery, and progress happen—including STEM. On International Women’s Day (March 8), we celebrate the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, and math while recognizing the barriers that still exist. STEM opportunities should not be limited by gender, geography, or resource access. Yet, too many girls and women around the world face challenges in pursuing their passion for STEM. This International Women’s Day, NGCP is raising awareness of these barriers and advocating for a future where all girls have the support, resources, and encouragement they need to thrive in STEM. Join us in championing a world where women and girls in STEM are not the exception but the norm. Let’s keep breaking down barriers and creating a future filled with limitless possibilities.
