#WorldBuildingOfTheWeek - Dating to the 19th century, Architecture Hall is the oldest building on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. With the most recent renovations to the building home to the College of Architecture happening back in the 1980s, HDR and NADAAA Inc. teamed up for a much-needed renovation and expansion. In honor of its ongoing collaboration with the school, the expansion that opened last year was named HDR Pavilion. With a growing student body, the University of Nebraska College of Architecture faced a choice: demolish part of its historic complex or expand it. The existing buildings—Architecture Hall (1891), the Law College (1921), and the “Link” building (1985)—form a core that reflects the campus’s architectural legacy. Rather than replace them, the proposed addition builds on the underutilized “Link,” preserving the historic character while introducing flexible studio and critique spaces and restoring a historic auditorium. The design also addresses mismatched floor levels across the buildings, creating a more cohesive and accessible interior.
