As communities across the country grapple with rising homelessness and increased housing costs, the Alliance finds that the majority of state and local governments invest less in housing than they do in corrections. Explore the snapshot: https://lnkd.in/e_45z8X3

About us
The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to end homelessness in the United States. We use research and data to find solutions to homelessness; we work with federal and local partners to create a solid base of policy and resources that support those solutions; and then we help communities implement them. Our strength is that we are an outcome-driven organization. Starting with our name and continuing with how we choose the work we do, allocate staff time, and use our resources, we focus on one thing: ending homelessness. The Homelessness Research Institute at the National Alliance to End Homelessness works to end homelessness by building and disseminating knowledge that drives policy change.

National Alliance to End Homelessness reposted this
Homelessness is a budget choice made by elected officials. This research map from National Alliance to End Homelessness SHOWS that many states spend much more on jail / prison than on housing and community development. Appreciate this visual to make the case that our electeds can choose to invest in our communities instead.

"We are standing on the precipice of the second wave of mass homelessness in America. "When we address the underlying issues that cause homelessness in the first place, everyone benefits. And when we have enough housing and resources for all, encampments will shrink and close on their own." Excellent op-ed from Open Table Nashville's Lindsey Krinks: https://lnkd.in/ezS5rEBW

This week’s CEO Corner focuses on three key items: - acknowledging that communities are being forced to make really hard choices; - explaining what last week’s Executive Order about Washington, D.C. indicates about the administration’s approach on homelessness; and - providing insight on why we think strong governance, including legal representation, is critical moving forward. “Unsheltered homelessness is a complex crisis in Washington, D.C. and across the nation. It never has, and never will be, solved with overly simplified approaches like encampment evictions,” said Ann Oliva, CEO of the National Alliance to End Homelessness. “This Executive Order is not a strategy for helping people get housed; it’s a tactic for hiding homelessness.” https://lnkd.in/er4NqfBp

🚨 Advocacy Alert! 🚨 Congress will vote on extreme cuts to Medicaid in the near future, and is already making plans to do so behind closed doors right now. We need your advocacy now to make sure that Medicaid isn’t on the chopping block when Congress votes. What's at stake: - The House has already approved a budget plan to impose up to $880 billion in cuts for Medicaid. While it is still unclear how exactly Medicaid programs would be cut, these options may include block granting the program, slashing federal contributions, reducing eligibility, and imposing work requirements. - Work requirements in Medicaid are especially problematic: they would cause a significant fraction of Medicaid enrollees to lose their coverage and thus increase homelessness. - People experiencing homelessness rely on Medicaid for services like transportation to medical appointments, respite care, and behavioral health services. Without Medicaid, they won’t be able to receive the medical care they need to survive. What you can do: Contact your Members of Congress in one of three ways (phone call, personalized email, online template form) using the Alliance's tools here: https://lnkd.in/e2PdXS6r
