For the past 25 years, Senator Bill Dodd has been a steadfast leader for Napa County and the larger region, with an unwavering commitment to our community. Over his career in public service, Dodd has served as a member of the Napa County Board of Supervisors, the California State Assembly, and the California State Senate. Today, the Board of Supervisors honored Senator Dodd and his retirement from public service with a proclamation.
During his tenure as a Napa County Supervisor, Senator Dodd represented the cities and county of Napa on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, serving as chairman for two years, and worked tirelessly on critical projects such as the Jameson Canyon Road Project. As an Assembly Member and a Senator, Bill Dodd helped pass 126 bills he authored into law, the most of any legislator during this period.
Senator Dodd has been a formidable advocate for wildfire prevention, consumer protection, and the sustainable management of our natural resources, successfully authoring significant legislation in these areas, including bills to improve gender pay equity and establish the Earned Income Tax Credit in California. He authored Senate Bill 20 in 2019 and Senate Bill 958 in 2024, pivotal legislation allowing Napa County to negotiate the purchase of Skyline Park from the State of California, ensuring the preservation of this vital community asset for current and future generations.
Beyond his legislative accomplishments, Senator Dodd has greatly contributed to the community as president of the national and state Water Quality Trade Associations, as a founder of the Wolfe Center for Youth Rehabilitation, and as a steadfast supporter of local charities, notably raising over $3M for those in need. He secured $7M for development and improvement of major emergency evacuation routes and firefighter access in Napa County, $18M for the Napa Valley Lodge Apartment project, $20M from SB 1 for the Soscol Junction Interchange Project, $23M for Hwy 37 flood prevention projects, $31M for student housing at Napa Valley College, and so much more.
Thank you Bill for your contributions and commitment - we wish you well on your new chapter!
