Celebrate Black Maternal Health Week with Motif Medical 🍼 👣 This week, we honor and uplift Black mothers—amplifying their voices, their experiences, and their needs. Let’s shed light on the challenges Black breastfeeding mothers face and what we can do to support them: ➡️ Disparities in Breastfeeding Black mothers have the lowest breastfeeding initiation and duration rates. They are 2.5 times more likely to be given formula in hospitals than White mothers, which can discourage breastfeeding. ➡️ Why does this happen? Lack of Workplace Support: Many Black women face challenges in their jobs without paid maternity leave or pumping accommodations. Historical & Cultural Factors: Medical biases have contributed to lower breastfeeding rates. Limited Access to Lactation Support: Fewer Black mothers receive professional lactation counseling, and there are fewer Black IBCLCs. Higher C-section Rates: Increased C-section rates among Black mothers can delay milk production and make breastfeeding more challenging. How to Help Now 🤱🏾 Lactation Support Did you know insurance may cover lactation classes?
