Since 1939, Memphis Light, Gas and Water has met the utility needs of Memphis and Shelby County residents by delivering reliable and affordable electricity, natural gas and water service. Electricity is supplied to MLGW by the Tennessee Valley Authority, while natural gas is purchased from a variety of suppliers and transported by three pipeline companies — Texas Gas Transmission Corporation, Trunkline Gas Company and ANR Pipeline Company. Memphis receives its water from one of the largest artesian water systems in the world. MLGW is led by a president and a five-member board of commissioners who are appointed by the mayor of Memphis and approved by the Memphis City Council.

NextOP and the Greater Memphis Chamber partnered to bring 27 military veterans to Memphis to meet with potential employers. We are honored that they wanted to visit Memphis to learn about their next opportunity post the military. We had a grand time showing off our great city! We started with a welcome reception at Central Barbecue with opening remarks from Doug McGowan CEO of MLGW and Kel Kearns, CEO of Amplify Cell Technology. Day 2, we continued with speed networking at our Chairman Circle investor Southworth Capital Management. Day 3, AAON, Nucor Steel and Buckman Labs hosted tours for the group. The group ended their visit with a trip to the FedEx Forum to watch the Memphis Grizzlies play the Minnesota Timberwolves. Thank you to all of the Veterans for your service and your time this week! We appreciate the of companies that supported the 3-day event. When something seems too good to be true, it’s important to make sure it’s not a scam. Luis Toro, owner of City & State in the Broad Avenue Arts District, was thrilled once he verified that the TVA EnergyRight Small Business Lighting Replacement program was legit. TVA covered 70% of the cost to install LED lighting in his operations center next door and all around his parking lot and patio. He was pleased with the process from start to finish and is glad to have extra security at night for his staff and property. “The new lighting prevents people from hanging around after hours.
