Farmworkers have long fought for fair wages, safe working conditions, and—crucially—reliable access to healthcare. While Cesar Chavez’s activism helped spotlight these needs, real-world challenges persist, especially in Health Professional Shortage Areas. Traditional “local” care isn’t always accessible when clinics are few and far between. At MiSalud Health, we’re redefining what “local” care means by connecting U.S. farmworkers with our team of Spanish-speaking physicians paired with Mexican doctors through telehealth, alongside our onsite biometric screenings. This creative approach lets workers overcome language and distance barriers, so they can receive culturally aligned care without traveling long distances or missing work. By bringing healthcare directly to the fields and enabling ongoing connections through digital platforms, we’re carrying forward the principles that Cesar Chavez and others championed: dignity, respect, and practical support for the people who put food on our tables. https://lnkd.in/guX7pg6y

This week at #ViVE2025, CEO Bismarck Lepe took the stage to address a massive gap in our health system: The US doesn’t have enough clinicians to adequately serve the fastest-growing employee population. 78% of all net new U.S. employees from 2020-2030 will be Hispanic. In industries facing worker shortages and rising costs, like food and housing, they’re already a significant portion of the employee population: 78% of U.S. agricultural workers identify as Hispanic, 36% of construction workers, 27% of food service workers, and 38% of building and maintenance workers. And 44% of U.S. Hispanics say communication & cultural differences are a major reason they have worse health outcomes. This gap between needing physical and mental healthcare, and being able to get it from someone who understands their language and culture, translates to real economic and business challenges. Thank you to #ViVE2025 and our co-presenters at the Culturally-Attuned Care session this week for shedding more light on the important topic of providing care that understands context. Julien L. Pham, MD, MPH Chris Frost Jerrica Kirkley, MD Katie Boston-Leary, PHD, MBA, MHA, RN, NEA-BC, FADLN MiSalud will be discussing Latino mental health at AgSafe in California next week. If you aren't able to attend, our previously recorded session on mental health for agricultural workers is available here: https://lnkd.in/g54B5sm6

Cross-border healthcare solutions are emerging as an innovative response to the shortage in healthcare workers, particularly for specific conditions or demographics. California alone has a deficit of 54,655 Latino physicians, per UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Initiative, and 44% of U.S. Latinos say language and cultural gaps are a “major reason” they have worse health outcomes than others in the U.S., per Pew. We predict more global 🌎 collaboration as digital health companies leverage clinical expertise from other countries to serve specific populations. Over 76% of primary care and 73% of specialist physicians 🧑⚕️ say they can provide similar-quality care at telemedicine visits as during in-person visits, per CDC. MiSalud is proud to be part of Taylor Farms’ wellness program and to be closing health gaps for essential workers who prefer to discuss their health in Spanish, with clinicians who share their cultural background. Thank you to the Taylor Farms employees, our patients, for their continued work to bring us healthy food, and thank you to their leadership for ensuring our food labor supply is strong in mind and body. Thank you to Victoria Clayton, KFF Health News and San Francisco Chronicle for bringing attention to the emerging solutions to addressing health gaps with culturally-attuned virtual care. https://lnkd.in/gtrbdaQw
