"There's no way to solve the homelessness crisis or the crisis and the lack of housing that ordinary families can afford, if we're not building hundreds of thousands of new units every year." - Senator Adam Schiff Thank you, Senator Schiff, for your leadership in expanding housing opportunities! During the tour, our CEO "Matt" Franklin shared how MidPen navigated the *many* complexities of financing and partnered with Signature Development Group, Oakland Housing Authority, City of Oakland, and Oak to 9th Community Benefits Coalition to bring 465 affordable homes to Brooklyn Basin. We appreciate your commitment to strengthening and expanding the #LIHTC so more communities like Brooklyn Basin can serve Californians. Together, we’re building a future where everyone has a place to call home. 🏡💙

Happy news! 😊 Midway Village Phase 2 in City of Daly City has officially closed construction financing and is now on record! 🎉 This phase brings 113 new affordable homes (including 46 for current Midway Village residents), plus a state-of-the-art child care center. Once complete, Midway Village will be both the largest affordable housing community we've *ever* created and the largest in County of San Mateo, with a grand total of 555 new affordable homes. HUGE thank you to our partners and everyone who made this milestone possible—onward to construction! 🚧

“I really have this deep belief that images can change the world.” - Amy Sherald Never too old for a field trip—especially when it’s to SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art! 🤩 We explored American Sublime, soaking in Amy Sherald's vibrant portraits that celebrate the quiet power of everyday people. From iconic pieces like those of Michelle Obama and Breonna Taylor, her work invites us to reflect on American identity and challenges us to see it in a whole new light. 🙌🎨

Driving change starts with us ✨ Our Leadership Team came together to learn from Professor Gregg Colburn, co-author of Homelessness is a Housing Problem. Nevada Merriman and Brenda Castillo-Garza led the discussion, exploring the structural causes of homelessness and the investments needed. 🌞 A bright spot: The dramatic decline in veteran homelessness over the last decade. Change is within reach—and we’re proud to be part of that charge with our latest community currently underway on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs hospital campus in Menlo Park 🤗

Celebrating Black Joy in Oakland! ❤️💛💚🖤 Sharing last month's 2025 Black Joy Parade where #TeamMidPen celebrated Black culture, resilience, and joy. This was our second year joining the parade, and is quickly becoming a favorite tradition - especially the pinch-us moment of passing our downtown Oakland office 🙂 🔊 We’re proud to champion inclusion *everywhere* and create spaces where *everyone* can thrive. Huge shoutout to our team for handing out 2,000+ flyers on affordable housing and career pathways, ensuring more families have access to vital resources!
