College basketball coach Greg Herenda has been attending the NCAA Men’s Final Four since the 1980s, but one trip to the tournament in 2018 became life-changing when he found himself experiencing a medical emergency in San Antonio. Back in town for the 2025 Final Four, Coach Herenda made a special visit to Methodist Hospital | Metropolitan to reconnect with the incredible staff who not only saved his life all those years ago, but gave him the chance to lead his own team to its first NCAA Tournament game win in school history the year following his recovery. Match Day is one of the most pivotal milestones in a physician’s journey. It is a moment filled with excitement, anticipation and the promise of a bright future in medicine. It is the day when aspiring doctors officially learn where they will begin the next chapter of their careers, training in residency programs that will shape them into skilled, compassionate and dedicated physicians. For our Graduate Medical Education programs at Methodist Healthcare, Match Day represents more than just assignments; it marks the arrival of the next generation of healthcare leaders. These residents will not only learn from esteemed faculty but will also serve our communities, providing exceptional patient care and advancing medical knowledge. As we celebrate this day, we honor the years of dedication, resilience and hard work that have brought these individuals to this moment.
