As critical components of any community, fire facility upgrades must be planned around uninterrupted 24/7/365 operations and services 🚒 In collaboration with the City of Mount Vernon, Mackenzie provided design and construction support for a much-needed expansion of the existing Fire Station Two. This project expanded the station’s operational space, added necessary safety equipment, upgraded mechanical and electrical systems, and expanded the apparatus bay. We began with a needs assessment, where we investigated both current deficiencies and future community needs. Our project team then carefully developed a phased renovation and replacement approach, protecting the ongoing operations of the station while upgrades were taking place. Throughout the project we worked closely with fire department leadership, adhering to evolving public health standards and fire facility design. We weighed essential facility-specific structural upgrades, resiliency, and emergency management considerations against impacts to the operations, longevity of the buildings, and overall cost of the project. Drivers of our design included: 🚨 The project expands operational space and the equipment necessary to support the well-being, health and safety of the first responders, staff and visitors. 🛠️ Façade upgrades and material selections were considered for durability, ease of maintenance, and the goal of creating visual unification between all fire facilities serving the Mount Vernon community. 🧯 The building footprint and interior layout were expanded to support rightsized fire administration functions, flexibility of apparatus, the addition of a fitness room, increased dining and kitchen space, and enlarged community/training capacity. 📸: Stuart Isett Team members included: Perteet Inc. . Cumming Group, and Säzän Group Inc.

“The fun part of this project is that people can witness project progress from Grange Avenue,” Molalla City Manager Dan Huff told the Molalla Pioneer. “Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) has been placed, roof is being placed, interior insulation is on-going and perimeter block walls are quickly being completed." Mackenzie is providing architecture, interiors, structural & civil engineering, landscape architecture, land use planning, and transportation planning for this project. "The new facility will have evidence bays, sally ports, temporary holding cells, and a community room/training space/emergency operating space." https://lnkd.in/gpFGHRpX

Recently, cross-laminated timber roof panels were installed at the new police station being built in the City of Molalla. The new police station will be Molalla’s first dedicated police facility. It will also function as an emergency operations center to coordinate public safety crisis response activities. “The organization of the facility and site was designed to create a more civically engaging relationship with the community,” Mackenzie Design Director Thomas Peck told the Daily Journal of Commerce Oregon in September, “It will reinforce the presence of law enforcement and the public safety building as a resource for everyone in Molalla.” The project team includes Mackenzie, Interface Engineering, Inc., P&C Construction, and Ward-Henshaw Construction.

🌲 Big ideas thrive when the right people come together. We kicked off day 1 of the International Mass Timber Conference with a tour of two projects that are shaping the future of mass timber in our region. First stop: PDX, where the 9-acre mass timber roof set a new standard by bringing together local foresters, mills, and builders to create something that truly reflects the Pacific Northwest. Attendees didn’t just learn about how it was built—they heard about the importance of investing in regional expertise and creating new opportunities. Next, at Terminal 2, that same spirit is taking shape with the Mass Timber and Housing Innovation Campus, a regional hub for manufacturing and housing construction, research and development, and workforce training where new business ideas are taking root and growing. A big thank you to our partners who joined us to share their experience and vision including those pictured: ZGF Architects, Yakama Forest Products, Zena Forest Products, Skokomish Indian Tribe, Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, Mackenzie, NativeWest Corp., and The Blueprint Foundation. The Port is just getting started, and we’d love to share more. Stop by the café in the exhibit hall to grab a coffee, meet the team, and explore how we’re creating new opportunities for innovation, industry, and community at Terminal 2. ----------------- #masstimberconference #masstimber #PDXairport #PortOfPortland Andersen Construction, Hoffman Construction Company, Skanska, LEVER Architecture, National Association of Minority Contractors, Inc., Single Widget, Timberlab, University of Oregon, Worksystems, ZIP-O-LAMINATORS LLC
