We're witnessing the Revenge of the Super IC. AI kind of came at the perfect time. We just had massive layoffs across the business community, and companies were already asking their employees to do more with less. Hundreds of thousands of managers were suddenly asked to do individual contributor (IC) work again, and hundreds of thousands of ICs realized they could grow their careers without ever having to do management. Then AI came in and gave ICs superpowers. I see it happening with my own team. We're only 17 people, so most are ICs. Growth Hacking died a few years ago. Now, a Growth Renaissance is taking its place. Most startup management advice tells you how to control chaos. Here's the truth: You can't control it. And trying to will often burn you out. I burned out when Facebook was going to hypergrowth.
