The Los Rios colleges make up one of the nation's most respected learning institutions. #ForEveryFuture
About us
At Los Rios Community College District, we help students reach their goals. We are one of the nation's most respected learning institutions and the second-largest community college district in California. Our students and alumni are the lifeblood of the Sacramento region. They are leaders, entrepreneurs, designers, explorers, teachers, healers, builders, and innovators. The four Los Rios Colleges – American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, and Sacramento City College – serve nearly 75,000 students throughout the Sacramento region. We offer a wide array of degree, transfer, and certificate programs to help students into the careers they’ve always dreamed of. Our mission is to provide a vibrant learning environment that empowers all students to achieve their educational and career goals. We are investing in new and innovative strategies to break down barriers to success, such as the Los Rios Promise, which guarantees free tuition for all first-time, full-time students at our colleges. The district’s 2,400 square-mile service area includes all of Sacramento County, most of El Dorado County, and parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties. In addition to our four main campuses, we have six education and outreach centers in Davis, Elk Grove, Natomas, Placerville, Rancho Cordova, and West Sacramento. Our students are as diverse and multi-cultural as the communities we serve, and our colleges put equity at the center of everything we do. Sacramento's economy relies on Los Rios students and alumni. Over one million students have studied in our colleges over the years, meeting workforce needs for area employers big and small. The public’s investment in Los Rios is reaping huge dividends for the prosperity of our region.

After 13 years of dedicated leadership, Chancellor Brian King has announced he will retire at the end of the 2025-26 academic year. “Serving as the Chancellor of the Los Rios Community College District has been the professional honor of my lifetime,” Chancellor King said in a video message to faculty, staff, and administrators at the four Los Rios colleges and District Office. “I’m so proud of what our district has accomplished over the past 13 years.” Under Chancellor King’s leadership, Los Rios has made extraordinary gains in student success, improving course success rates and seeing dramatic improvements in degree/certificate completion. In the last 13 years, Los Rios has also built or significantly renovated more than a dozen major campus facilities, seen enrollment grow to beyond pre-pandemic levels, and expanded programs for students and employers in the Capital region. 🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 We’re thrilled to announce that our Los Rios colleges have received funding through the We Prosper Together initiative to build a healthcare talent pipeline!⚕️ This funding will be used in conjunction with recent support from the Sacramento K-16 Collaborative to maximize impact as we help tackle healthcare workforce shortages in the Sacramento region by developing specialized training programs in: ✅ Surgical Technology ✅ Cardiovascular Technology ✅ Radiologic Technology These programs will be implemented at Cosumnes River College, Sacramento City College, and Folsom Lake College, with American River College conducting an exploratory study for future health career expansion. We will continue to prioritize equity and inclusion, equipping students—especially those from underserved populations—with the skills needed for high-wage careers while strengthening partnerships with healthcare providers to create a sustainable talent pipeline. Together, we’re building a stronger workforce, a healthier community, and a more prosperous future! 💙🏥 #WeProsperTogether #HealthcareCareers #EquityInEducation #StrongWorkforce #LosRiosColleges Valley Vision
