About us
The activists of Little Manila are dedicated to bringing multifaceted equity to Stockton. After generations of neglect of communities in the margins and the notion that diversity is a hindrance to progress, we believe in cherishing all communities and that diversity is our city’s greatest asset.

Our #GreenliningTheBlock partners Casa Familiar, Inc., Equiticity, and Little Manila Rising have made significant advancements in harnessing local community power to improve their local economies, promote the health & well-being of community members, and cultivate #climateresilience in their neighborhoods. We hope that you found inspiration and joy in the community stories that are at the heart of our work. Driving public and private investments into formerly redlined #BIPOC communities, advocating for equitable policy and #climatejustice solutions, and growing intentional partnerships all go hand-in-hand. We invite you to join us in the movement for the long haul, especially as community needs including good jobs, #cleantransportation, sidewalks, and #greenspaces like community gardens remain underfunded in formerly redlined locales across the country. https://lnkd.in/gX2h8bmc

Today, our team joined part of the Jakara Movement's ‘Fearless for Justice’ march from Stockton to Lodi, standing in solidarity with our Sikh neighbors. This 350-mile journey, inspired by the United Farm Workers’ legacy, brings attention to the 1984 Sikh genocide and the ongoing foreign intimidation faced by Sikh activists in the U.S.. Commemorating 40 years of resilience in the face of oppression, their march advocates for solidarity and a future rooted in justice, safety, and dignity. #FearlessForJustice #InSolidarity #LittleManilaRising

Big thank you to Little Manila Rising (LMR) for giving us a tour of your headquarters and the last remaining Little Manila historic buildings in Stockton yesterday. We learned so much about the Filipino community of Stockton and how organizations like LMR continue the work of past generations to care for your community in the face of injustice. 🇵🇭 Little Manila Rising serves the South Stockton community, developing equitable solutions to the effects of historical marginalization, institutionalized racism, and harmful public policy. LMR offers a wide spectrum of programs that address education, environment, redevelopment, and public health. They are one of our closest partners in Stockton and it is truly inspiring the passion and the work that they have to help the South Stockton community! This event was a part of Rising Sun’s DEIJB initiative to create Solidarity Spaces for all staff to learn about, celebrate, and work as antiracists in the communities we are a part of and that we serve. It was an eye-opening and inspiring experience yesterday visiting our partners in #Stockton, Little Manila Rising, and touring the #LittleManila Historic Site. Once the thriving home of the largest Filipino population outside of the Philippines, decades of culture, community, history, activism, and industry were demolished to build the Crosstown Highway, and later, a “gateway” to progress: a gas station and a McDonald’s. But this organization has continued to fight back against this racism, erasure, and neglect; has preserved and rebuilt community, culture, and legacy; and now leads alongside its community towards environmental justice. THIS is why communities across the Central Valley need and deserve the attention and investment they’ve been denied for much, much too long. LMR team - thank you for sharing time and space with us today; it’s an honor to get to partner with y’all through the amazing Rising Sun Center for Opportunity Stockton team.
