It was delightful to host Patrice McLaurin for a reading of her picture book "Have You Thanked an Inventor Today?" at Jefferson - Vassie D. Wright Memorial Branch Library (picture), North Hollywood Amelia Earhart Regional Library, and Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library! McLaurin took her audience on a journey into the often-forgotten contributions of African-American inventors through fun activities, Q&A, and a book signing. This event is part of the No Prior Art: Illustrations of Inventions program series. Join in on the fun through May 11, with programs for Angelenos of all ages across 22 participating branch locations. To our LFLA friends: We know many of you have seen the disheartening news about the latest Executive Order that moves to dismantle the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the only federal agency dedicated to funding library services nationwide that millions of people rely on every day. Over the years, LFLA has secured IMLS grant funding for @lapubliclibrary initiatives to enhance STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programming, support the training of library and archives professionals, and develop sensory-friendly spaces for teens and children, among others. While LAPL will continue to provide robust resources to our communities thanks to local funding, it’s time to show up #ForOurLibraries to advocate for IMLS and the transformative grant funding that makes a difference in LA and across the country! Los Angeles, thank you for making history with us at our first-ever Night at the Library! In partnership with Los Angeles Public Library, LAist , Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, and LA Phil, it was such a thrill to transform Central Library into an after-hours festival—swirling with the energy of incredible live performances, thousands of engaged library lovers, and diverse modes of storytelling. Being together with you, in such a magical celebration of our libraries, our stories, and our city, was an experience that we’ll never forget. But the fun doesn't stop here! We invite you to continue to stay involved with more exciting programming at the Library via lfla.org. Photos by Loreen Sarkis. #NightAtTheLibrary #LibraryLove #LAPL #LFLA #LibrariesofInstagram
