Since 2008, the national attainment rate has climbed from 38 to 55 percent--meaning millions more people now hold credentials of value opening doors to better jobs, stronger communities, and a more inclusive economy. The Joyce Foundation is proud to join national higher education leaders, partners, and supporters dedicated to this movement this week in Washington, D.C., for "Celebrating and Accelerating Attainment: 2025 & Beyond". Along with partners like Lumina Foundation, Institute for Higher Education Policy, Trellis Foundation, Strada Education Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, Gates Foundation, ECMC Foundation, College Futures Foundation, Ascendium Education Group and others, we're spending this week in dialogue and reflection on the impact of this hard-won progress. We're also excited about planning what’s next: a future where 75 percent of adults in the U.S. labor force by 2040 will have college degrees or other credentials of value leading to economic accessibility. As our Education and Economic Mobility Director Stephanie Banchero told attendees: There is an urgency right now to share good ideas and shine a light on what is working in higher education. The work ahead is crucial—and it starts now. #AccelerateAttainment

Thanks to all who joined our webinar earlier this week exploring the role of healthcare-based screening and violence prevention tools that might lessen the risk of gun violence, and that can help people at risk of suicide make informed decisions about secure gun storage. The entire recording is below. Thanks to University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center Dr. Jason Goldstick and Dr. Julie Richards for their participation, the latest in a series hosted by Joyce that focuses on firearms research commissioned by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. #GunViolencePrevention https://lnkd.in/gwyW24_r

We're super proud of our Gun Violence Prevention and Justice Reform Senior Program Officer and City Colleges of Chicago Foundation Board Member Dr. Quintin Williams, whose ascension to a doctoral degree in sociology was rooted in his early experience as a graduate of City Colleges of Chicago-Malcolm X College. This inspirational video shares more of his story and underscores the critical pathway to higher education for so many through community college. For many years Joyce has supported the successful Chicago Roadmap program providing dual enrollment opportunities for Chicago Public Schools students at City Colleges. Heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Williams and the team at City Colleges for highlighting student success! #HigherEd #BlackLearnerExcellence #DualEnrollment #StudentSuccess
As we continue to accelerate the impact of our Black Learner Excellence Impact Agenda, consider how YOU can help create an opportunity that changes our students’ lives and whole perspective on what is possible for themselves, their families, and their communities.
