Still here! This week's list! https://lnkd.in/eWU6rBQw Thursday, I will share some JWJ jobs data, so stay tuned. #water #waterjobs #WASH #WASHjobs #sanitation #hygiene #SDG6
About us
Josh’s Water Jobs started in 2011 as an informal listserv of a few dozen friends and colleagues receiving a job posting every month. As the list grew in size, not only in the number of recipients but also the number of jobs, it became increasingly clear that the list was filling a gap where a website concentrating on international water jobs should have been. The more people got jobs, the more the initiative to create that website gained momentum, culminating in Josh’s Water Jobs being launched in June of 2016. The jobs found on the website are related to water and internationally focused. There are two broad categories that are highlighted, namely Water (policy, governance, law, economics, management, finance, advocacy, science, communications, etc.) and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene). The initial phase of the website will focus on what has always been done: connecting people with jobs. What follows will depend largely on the demand of the site’s users. Initial ideas from the original listserv group reflected a movement towards enhancing the experience between jobseekers and employers along with the dissemination of information related to career development and what is going on in the water community itself.

Update: Well, that was fun 😊 Sorry if I caused a few palpitations, but it wouldn’t be a good April Fools’ joke if I hadn’t, right? 😉 And, it was indeed an April Fools’ joke that Josh's Water Jobs is shutting down for those of you who didn’t see the comment below my post (or click the link in the list). Here to stay! Thank you for the outpouring of support 🩵 In the day-to-day of the platform, I don’t get that kind of feedback, so it’s nice when all the work is validated. That is not what I was expecting from my prank, but it was most welcome! To update you all on where things stand… The idea is to still make a JWJ 3.0 (currently on 2.0). The business planning has gotten stuck a few times. And, frankly, I’ve been stuck a few times. It’s not so straightforward how access and cost recovery can co-exist (sounds like a water problem, no? 😉) on such a platform with what I have in mind (believe me, I’ve been down every rabbit hole), and finding the right software/technology. Trying for a unicorn in many respects. Unless I can get a large benefactor (ahem), I do have to make some hard choices as to how to move forward. But, I will keep the principles in place that I’ve always worked with. Even so, I will be seeking out (grant) funding when the time is right to make it all happen. That is for another day though. What you can expect shortly is some data on last years’ jobs, and also how that compares with the first quarter of this year. I thought given the state of things, it would be good to see how the job market has changed. Of course, JWJ is just a small niche of the larger water world (JWJ 3.0 will broaden that, FYI), but I believe that for international (water) jobs, the data is quite solid. Until next Tuesday!

I have some difficult news to share… Josh's Water Jobs is officially shutting down. After almost nine years of connecting water professionals across the globe, I’m deeply saddened to announce that this will be the final job list (https://lnkd.in/eZ48NeE2). This decision has not come easily — trust me, I’ve gone back and forth more times than I care to admit. But in the end, the reality is that maintaining JWJ at the level you all deserve has simply become unsustainable (was it ever truly sustainable?). I’ve poured my heart into this project, but the time has come for me to move on to other endeavors. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to serve this incredible community. Thank you for your support, your kindness, and for letting me be a small part of your professional journeys. You can find more details on the phase out below in the comments. All the best to everyone, as always!
