The wrong path as a preteen and teen led me to want a career in psychology but after beginning my real estate career in 2000 while finishing my psychology degree and having a new baby, I realized real estate was the path for me and I started getting involved at the Palmetto house homeless shelter and Habitat for Humanity. My involvement with Habitat allowed me to see the destruction of hurricane Katrina that left so many people homeless. In 2006 after serving with Habitat for Humanity I felt led to go help with relief efforts in Louisiana and Alabama where we built 100 homes in 100 days with so many volunteers. Shortly, after that the housing crisis occurs in 2007 and 2008. I was selling a couple hundred foreclosures a year, and evicting people within days to no more than 2 weeks. It hit me hard especially as a young mom myself. I knew I had to do something more. I created a property management company to help relocate these people and formed partnerships with Crisis Ministries. When I opened the company I have today in 2013 I knew that if I was going to be a lasting, integral part of the community by helping people make their homeownership dreams come true that I had to be a part of that community when times were hard too and that the blessings I received through my career I had to be willing to pay it forward. That led me to create Hope For Homes. Every home that we sell & every home that we build, 10% of those profits will go back into our community to assist with affordable housing initiatives, including financial literacy, neighborhood stabilization, senior assistance, and the build of affordable housing tiny homes for the essential people in our community that are simply unable to afford the housing prices in the Lowcountry. We can’t do this alone.
