The Jirsa Hedrick team had a productive visit to six of our active construction sites in Eagle County last week! We observed structural steel, wood framing, modular homes, and big holdowns while our younger engineers gained valuable field experience. It was also a great opportunity to assess project progress, connect with our clients, and see our designs come to life! We've enjoyed collaborating with TAB Associates, Inc. on the Gypsum Early Learning Center in Eagle as well as the McGrady townhomes in Avon (both pictured). Its March 14 aka PI DAY! The famous irrational number appears in many scientific and mathematical formulas, from the area of a circle to complex wave theory. Its no surprise the famous figure appears in many equations used by structural engineers. Perhaps the most famous and frequent structural application of the mathematical constant is in Euler's buckling equation, applicable to all building materials. But look a little harder through ACI, AISC, NDS, and ASCE and you will see Archimedes' constant appears in equations for computing seemingly unrelated things like ice accumulation, anchor capacity, roof ponding deflection, tsunami size, and much more! Jirsa Hedrick project, One River North, has been honored with the '2025 PTI Award of Excellence' in the Buildings category! One River North required extensive use of post tensioned concrete to create the building's large slab cantilevers, huge transfer beams and slabs, and signature undulating slab edges. The building design would not have been possible without creative use of unbonded PT design strategies. The project's success was due to the hard work and elaborate coordination of the design team including Davis Partnership Architects and MAD architects as well as the construction team including Saunders Construction, Baker Construction and the PT experts at Suncoast Post-Tension, Ltd. PTI's Award of Excellence highlights the innovative use of post-tensioning, acknowledging projects that push the boundaries of technology and inspire future advancements in design and construction worldwide. The PTI Project Awards serve as a platform to celebrate these pioneering achievements, encouraging the global development of post-tensioning solutions. The Jirsa Hedrick team capped off E-week 2025 with some fun games and reflection on the great moments of pride we have felt from the work we do. The team shared stories of designing 6 foot tall beams, thorough coordination of complicated ductwork through beams, an airport terminal design that successfully endured a strong earthquake and many, many more moments that have reinforced our love for Structural Engineering. Happy National Engineers Week and Colorado Engineers Week! Structural Engineers do so many things to ensure TRUST that a hospital will stand tall after an earthquake, a bridge will hold tight in a raging hurricane, a home will remain safe in a massive snow storm, and stadiums will be unfazed by thousands of fans in the stands. If you have ever crossed a bridge or walked through a big building with confidence of safely coming and going, that is thanks to an Engineer! This week not only are we celebrating the incredible impacts of engineers to create safe cities and towns, but we also recognize the importance of inspiring future generations that will have the incredible responsibility to Design The Future! This weekend we helped support one such event held by American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Students of Color in Technology (SOC-IT) by talking to students about how our roles as engineers helps us feel like superhero's of the community. Events like these help inspire students and ensure passion for engineering continues into future generations. Jirsa Hedrick Structural Engineers is proud to have worked on the latest Bass Pro Shop store in Colorado, which has just begun construction and is slated to open in late 2025. At over 130,000 square feet, this new location in Loveland Colorado will be a welcome addition for outdoors enthusiast of Northern Colorado. Anyone who has visited one of the Bass Pro Shops locations across the country will recognize the unique structural features including grand entrances with massive exposed trusses, high clerestory roof features, cabin-like finishes at the exterior, and of course the Famous Bass Pro Shops fish tanks and interactive educational displays. It has been such a fun challenge for us at Jirsa Hedrick Structural Engineers to work on One River North, and it is an incredible honor to be recognized by the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA) and the SEAC - Structural Engineers Association of Colorado for the work that went into the project. SEAC has awarded One River North the 2024 award for Best Overall Project, and NCSEA nominated One River North as a Finalist for the 2024 Structural Engineering Excellence award! Thank you to the hard work from all the teams that made the project a success, including Davis Partnership Architects , MAD architects, Saunders Construction and many others! We are beyond excited to have received these awards, but we are also excited to see all of the incredible projects that were nominated as finalists in the SEAC and NCSEA awards.
