Bringing innovative cancer genomic testing, education, and clinical trial framework to Maine and beyond.

About us

The Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative (MCGI) is an alliance of Maine oncology providers led by The Jackson Laboratory with funding from the Harold Alfond® Foundation. Its primary goal is to reduce disparities in access to advanced technologies for cancer care and precision medicine. MCGI brings innovative cancer genomic testing, education, and clinical trials infrastructure to one of the most rural areas in the country, in partnership with every oncology practice in the state. Initially driven by the need for greater availability of cancer genomic testing for Maine's cancer patients, MCGI has become a model for community precision oncology, or personalized cancer care, in a rural setting. • Last week, MCGI’s Lindsey Kelley and Leah Graham, Ph.D. joined fellow advocates at the Maine State House for #MaineCancerActionDay. Together, we urged lawmakers to support LD 107, a bill that would increase access to biomarker testing by requiring insurance coverage for proven testing. Biomarker testing is a critical tool in precision medicine, helping patients receive the right treatment at the right time. Expanding access means better health outcomes, improved quality of life, and reduced healthcare costs—a win for patients and providers alike. We’re proud to stand alongside the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) and other advocates to push for policies that improve cancer care in Maine. Thank you to all who participated and to the lawmakers listening to the voices of cancer patients and their families. #BiomarkerTesting #CancerAdvocacy #PrecisionMedicine #MCGI The Jackson Laboratory Maine Legislature
