Growing up on a diversified livestock and row crop farm outside of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Lindsey Jennett has been immersed in agriculture from an early age. Jennett chose to pursue her education at Iowa State University, drawn in by the animal science department’s strong reputation, hands-on learning opportunities, and passionate faculty. “Once I learned about the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State, I never felt the need to explore any other options,” she shared. “With its top-tier resources, research opportunities, and industry connections, I knew this was the best place to prepare for my future.” From her very first animal science class, she felt confident that she had found the right fit. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is seeking an experienced individual to manage the daily operations of the ISU Dairy Farm. Home to around 400 dairy cows and 400 heifers, the farm produces and ships approximately 29,000 pounds of milk per day to Prairie Farms. It also houses the Dairy Research and Teaching Unit, providing an exceptional environment for research, teaching, and extension efforts in the dairy industry. Last month, nine students passionate about the beef industry had the opportunity to attend the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) conference in Texas, accompanied by several faculty and staff members. This trip was part of the Beef Leadership Fellows program, designed to provide students with leadership exposure and hands-on industry experience. Block and Bridle held their annual Academic Quadrathlon on February 8th. Four teams competed in the event and the winning team consisted of Hannah Lahner, Maddie Hansen, Jordyn Collins, and Alison Trimble.

Alumni Spotlight: Karlee Skinner Recent graduate Karlee Skinner is pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian while living in a tropical paradise. Skinner, an alum of Iowa State University, is currently a first-year veterinary student at St. George’s University in Grenada.
