Congratulations to Frank McGillin of The Clinic by Cleveland Clinic, whose article "Industry Voices—How 2nd opinions can save payers and satisfy patients" for Fierce Healthcare won Article of the Year from Swaay.Health Marketing Community in the provider category. Last year, an analysis by The Clinic showed virtual second opinions decreased medical costs by an average of $8,705 per patient. These savings are accentuated in high-cost cases. In this piece, Frank discusses why these encounters can also boost patient satisfaction, based on a consumer survey. The research demonstrates the potential of virtual second opinions to drive both improved health outcomes and adherence to treatment plans—ultimately helping to reduce healthcare costs. • Access, responsiveness & decisiveness are key factors that have pumped up share of voice and volume of coverage for Wondr Health, with a 170% increase in media mentions from 2023 to 2024 , a 15% increase in B2B SOV and a 10% increase in unfiltered SOV. Find out more in this wrap up of a Swaay.Health Marketing Community session led by Erin George of Innsena & Keva Meyer of Wondr Health, "Breaking Through the Noise: Story of a Successful Client-Agency Partnership." #healthcare #behaviorchange #marketing #communications #healthtech #SwaayHealth

Loved seeing this session at Swaay.Health Marketing Community Event—"Breaking Through the Noise: Study of a Successful Client-Agency Partnership"—and, especially, the audience interactions afterward with presenters Erin George of Innsena & Keva Meyer of Wondr Health. Among the top takeaways: 👏 Access, responsiveness & decisiveness are among the key factors that have pumped up share of voice and volume of coverage for Wondr Health, with a 170% increase in media mentions from 2023 to 2024 alone, a 15% increase in B2B SOV and a 10% increase in unfiltered SOV. So are collaboration, trust and transparency. Each month, this strong, integrated team discusses what's working—and what isn't—and how to sustain momentum. "Having some consistency in your KPIs over time can really show that value story," Erin says. 👏 Also vital: "Spokespeople who are willing to play the long game," Erin says. It may take three to four touchpoints before an interaction with a reporter or editor leads to a media opportunity. One characteristic that distinguishes Wondr Health's top SME: He's not only an expert in digital behavior change, especially as it relates to #weightloss and #weightmanagement, but is also highly skilled at using personal stories & anecdotes to make clinical topics come alive in new ways. 👏 Never underestimate the power of a well-written press release. "When you've got really great news and you tell it in a smart way, it's still a great lever," Erin says. At Wondr Health, increasing press release cadence has been part of a multi-pronged strategy to elevate visibility and establish Wondr Health as a leader in behavioral change skills & GLP-1 management. 👏 Make every opportunity count. Leveraging media wins & speaking opportunities in a variety of ways across channels is one winning approach that has helped increase qualified leads by 25%. Did you attend yesterday's #SwaayHealth presentation? What were your top takeaways?

Healthcare PR Strategy | Thought Leadership | Transaction and Stakeholder Comms

Thank you to the Swaay.Health Marketing Community team for hosting one of the most collaborative industry events I’ve attended in years. I enjoyed connecting with fellow health tech marketers and communicators as peers—not competitors—to share ideas, strategies, and challenges. Obviously, the highlight was the session Keva Meyer and I led on the success to date of Wondr Health’s relationship with Innsena over the past few years. (PR and marketing can achieve Big Things together — like a 22% YoY increase in SOV that stuffs the funnel.) I also enjoyed sessions that delivered new information and insights, reinforced existing client strategies, and provided food for thought. Favorite topics included: 🎯 The neuropsychology of brand (and how to use it to your advantage) 🎯 How to drive positive online reviews for clinician practices, and why it matters 🎯 The ethical use of AI (as well as a discussion about AI tools I’m definitely going to test drive) 🎯 A case study on building an influencer marketing program to drive participation in local health initiatives I had to bug out before the unconference session on PR during the last half-day, but I hope John Lynn will consider adding more PR/Comms-focused content to this event in the future. Oh, and Coronado is so beautiful, I'm not sure it's a real place...

Powerful commentary by Kat Kovalchik McDavitt on the impact of #publichealth in helping to prevent opioid use disorder. #opioids #opioidusedisorder

I do not have #opioid use disorder and it's because of #publichealth. I had easy pregnancies and natural births with both of my boys. Zero complications. But getting lucky with great birthing hips is not what this post is about. It's about being lucky that I was caught by a public health effort to reduce unnecessary opioid prescriptions. I had my first son when hospitals still advertised pain as the fifth vital sign. When all over my hospital room were signs instructing me how to express my pain level. As mentioned, I had zero complications, and I received only Motrin for pain in the hospital. But, upon discharge, my OB wrote me a prescription for 10 days worth of Percocet. Why? Who knows. I was not educated on the risks of this medication. And, to 29 year old Kat, if a doctor told me to do something, I figured I should probably do it. I think this doctor was in many ways doing what he thought he should do. He believed pain was bad. And perhaps in his experience this kind of action did not adversely impact his patients. A day after I got home, I walked a mile to the local CVS to get some fresh air. That's right, I walked a mile 3 days post-partum, which I say not to sound like a birthing baddie, but to illustrate the fact that I was NOT IN PAIN. I handed the pharmacist my prescription, and I remember her smirking at me. I thought I had done something wrong or my bra was undone from nursing or something. But she saw me tear up and then explained her expression. She asked me a few questions about my birth, and my level of pain. I proudly told her I TOTALLY crushed childbirth and had walked to the pharmacy, and in general things were good, despite crying all the time. She also asked what pain relief I had been given in the hospital--just Motrin. Then she said walked around the counter and picked up a bottle of generic ibuprofen. She told me how many to take and for how many days. She said if I really wanted the prescription, she would fill it. I said nah. She ripped it up in front of me, and off I went. I didn't know at the time this pharmacist's actions were part of a public health effort to reduce the number of avoidable opioid prescriptions. Mine was unnecessary. Would I have developed OUD? Would I have been unaffected? Who knows. But that's the point: I'll never have to find out. This post is not to say moms who experience severe pain and complications don't deserve pain medication. This post is about someone who was lucky in pregnancy and childbirth who, thanks to public health, did not ever have to find out first hand what life with an opioid addiction was like. It does appear the team at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Injury Center working on overdoses was somewhat spared during the recent April 1 RIF (Someone correct me if I'm misinformed). I'm grateful for that, and hope there's a plan to keep these programs going.
