We announce the third Keynote Speaker of our conference George Arampatzis. George is Associate Professor at the School of Production Engineering & Management of the Technical University of Crete and visiting Professor at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (CIHEAM MAICh). He received his Diploma in Chemical Engineering in 1991 and his Ph.D. in 2000 from the National Technical University of Athens. He is the Coordinator of the “Industrial and Digital Innovations Research group” (indigo - TUC) at TUC. His research interests focus on Smart ICT Technologies (Industry 4.0, Agriculture 4.0, Smart Greenhouses, Digital Twins, Cyber-Physical Systems), Process, System and Service Engineering, Energy Systems Management (Energy Conservation & Harvesting, Renewable Energy Sources), Environmental Systems Management (Natural Resources Management, Lifer Cycle & Eco-Efficiency Assessment), Water Resources Management, Decision Making. He has participated in more than 30 research projects at both European and National level as a technical/scientific coordinator, work package leader and senior researcher. He is the author of 6 academic books, 3 book chapters and of more than 70 scientific publications in international peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

We are happy to announce Prof Dr Simos Malamis as Keynote Speaker of our 2nd International Conference "Circular Economy: The pathway towards a Sustainable Development" Dr. Malamis is a Civil and Environmental Engineer and graduate of the Imperial College and the University of Oxford. He is Associate Professor at the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering of the School of Civil Engineering, National Technical University of Athens. Dr. Malamis is the coordinator of the Horizon projects HYDROUSA and CARDIMED and the principal investigator in several other European and National projects. His research focus is on circular wastewater management and resource recovery, water reuse, and nature-based solutions. He has more than 90 publications in international peer reviewed scientific journals and more than 150 presentations at International Conferences.

We are happy to announce the first Keynote Speaker of our conference, Dr Julian Kirchherr. Julian is Associate Professor and Researcher on Sustainable Business and Innovation and Circular Economy at Utrecht University and Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company. Julian holds a doctorate from the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford. Much of Julian's research investigates #sustainability transitions and the role the private sector can play in these. He has a high-ranking academic profile with more than 18k citations for his work. Most of his current work investigates the #circulareconomy concept as a vehicle for such transitions. He studies the concept of the circular economy as a means to achieve sustainability and focuses on fundamental aspects, including the definition of the circular economy and its emergence as a research field. He has explored circular start-ups and the dynamic capabilities necessary to drive the implementation of circular economy business models. Julian is a global thought leaders on people and organizational transformations. He works with ambitious people and organizational performance programs in various industries such as automotive, semiconductors, energy, banking, and media. Example projects led by Julian include: - resetting the learning for 300,000 employees at a major transportation organization - helping a sovereign wealth fund launch a skilling start-up to educate 500,000 youths for high-in-demand vocational professions - carrying out the first at-scale strategic workforce planning exercise at a renowned financial institution https://lnkd.in/dvTWdrmt

[english follows] 🎊Με επιτυχία ολοκληρώθηκαν οι εργασίες του πρώτου διεθνούς συνεδρίου του Συνδέσμου μας στα Χανιά. 👩💼Συμμετείχαν πάνω από 130 επιστήμονες, καθηγητές, ερευνητές, επαγγελματίες, απλοί πολίτες και εκπρόσωποι αρχών και εταιρειών, ενώ πολλοί φοιτητές επίσης παρακολούθησαν πολλές από τις συνεδρίες. 🌍Αξίζει να σημειωθεί πως σχεδόν 3 στους 4 συμμετέχοντες προέρχονταν από 24 χώρες εκτός της Ελλάδας, με τις πιο μακρινές συμμετοχές να έρχονται από την Αυστραλία. ℹ️Παρουσιάστηκαν 90 προφορικές εργασίες και 26 πόστερ. ✅Αποδείχτηκε έτσι η στήριξη στην πρωτοβουλίας ίδρυσης του Συνδέσμου μας, όσο και η ανάγκη να δημιουργηθεί η κατάλληλη πλατφόρμα για την ανταλλαγή απόψεων, την ενίσχυση του διαλόγου, και την ενημέρωση γύρω από τις εξελίξεις σε θέματα κυκλικής οικονομίας. 🏆Σημαντικό ρόλο στην επιτυχία του πρώτου αυτού συνεδρίου έπαιξαν και οι χοηγοί μας, τους οποίους και ευχαριστούμε θεμά: Πράσινο Ταμείο, Περιφέρεια Κρήτης, Περιφερειακό Ταμείο Ανάπτυξης Κρήτης, ΔΕΔΙΣΑ, SolidBlue Engineering, Springer Nature, Circular Economy and Sustainability journal. 🔜Ο Σύνδεσμός μας δεσμεύεται πως θα πυκνώσει πλέον τις δραστηριότητές του με τη διοργάνωση περισσότερων και στοχευμένων εκδηλώσεων στην χώρα, τόσο σε διαφορετικές τοποθεσίες όσο και διαδικτυακά. Και φυσικά, θα συνεχίσουμε τη σειρά αυτή συνεδρίων που εγκαινιάσαμε στα Χανιά και τα επόμενα χρόνια, την οποία ευελπιστούμε μελλοντικά να την δούμε και εκτός Ελλάδος! Ελπίζουμε να σας ξαναδούμε σύντομα!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 🎊The first international conference of our Society, which took place in Chania, is successfully completed! 👩💼Over 130 scientists, professors, researchers, professionals, citizens, and companies and authorities representatives participated, while many students also attended many of the sessions. 🌍It is worth noting that almost 3 out of 4 participants came from 24 countries outside of Greece, with the most distant ones coming from Australia. ℹ️About 90 oral papers and 26 posters were presented. ✅This proved the support to our initiative to establish our Society, as well as the need to create the appropriate platform for the exchange of opinions, the strengthening of the dialogue, and the information about the developments and the progress on circular economy issues. 🏆Our sponsors also played an important role in the success of this first conference, whom we thank: Green Fund, REGION OF CRETE, Regional Development Fund of Crete, DEDISA, SolidBlue Engineering and Springer Nature Group and Circular Economy and Sustainability - CIES (Springer journal). 🔜We are committed to continue this series of conferences we launched in Chania in the following years, which we hope to see outside of Greece in the future! Our conference operations started today in Chania! The conference chair Prof Dr Alexandros Stefanakis opened the first session, while the Rector of the Πολυτεχνείο Κρήτης - Technical University of Crete also gave the first welcome message. The opening session included the talka of our keynite Speakers; Prof Nancy Bocken from Maastricht University and Ilektra Kouloumpi Consultant and Advisor on #circulareconomy projects. #hsce #sustainability #chania #greece

Our conference activities started yesterday with the welcome reception at the beautiful venue of the El. Venizelos Museum in Chania. The delegates had the chance to see the authentic 19th century preserved residence of the former Greek Prime Minister, and enjoy local food and drinks in the beautiful flower garden.
