This week, I shared my perspective with Automotive News News on a principle that continues to guide smart business strategy: the Pareto Principle. The idea is simple but powerful—80% of outcomes come from just 20% of efforts. In today’s automotive landscape, this principle is more relevant than ever. Only a few features truly drive brand differentiation and influence purchasing decisions. For consumers, user experience, software, design, and intelligence have become the key factors that shape perception, build brand equity, and define success in the market. Powertrain systems remain essential. But in most segments, they are no longer a source of differentiation. High performance, low emissions, and efficiency are now expected by default. This shift calls for a strategic realignment. To focus investment and innovation on features that truly differentiate the brand, it’s both logical and necessary to delegate the development of foundational, low-differentiation systems—such as powertrains—to a proven, reliable partner. Innovation knows no limits at Horse Powertrain. We’re charting new territory beyond the road.   For the first time, our HORSE division is bringing the cutting-edge 1.3-liter, 4-cylinder HR13 engine to the water, as the heart of Hybdor’s (a division of Espadarte Group) world-first flex-fuel marine PHEV powertrain.   Designed for yachts and Class 2 vessels (26 – 40 feet in length), Hybdor’s pioneering Duotech 200E is tailored for the Brazilian market, seamlessly running on gasoline-ethanol flex fuel blends. The powertrain will be capable of switching between pure-combustion and pure-electric modes – in much the same way as land vehicles – but the Hybdor PHEV will also feature a “boost” mode, combining both combustion and electric power.   🔗 Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/d6Brrz8F

I had a great conversation with Daniel Zwick at WELT about Horse Powertrain’s mission to be automotive’s leading problem-solver for all things combustion and hybrid. I talked to him about how we go well beyond just being a traditional supplier for OEMs – we’re a full lifecycle partner for powertrain research, system integration, and production. For me, this is one of the most exciting things about Horse Powertrain: our team is creating a whole new category in the automotive ecosystem. Just came back from an absolutely amazing week in Brazil. Great meetings with great customers, inspiring dialogues with the local press, and quality time spent with our local teams including a plant visit in Curitiba around the celebration of its 25th anniversary. Everybody so excited and interested on what we at Horse Powertrain are doing to accelerate our industry transition to net zero with our innovations and excellence in some of the best ICE and Hybrid engines produced in the world. We’re thrilled to share that our HORSE division has signed a supply agreement with Lecar, a leading home-grown Brazilian automaker. The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder 'HR10' engine will power Lecar's extended-range 459 Hybrid sedan. Designed to run on both gasoline and ethanol flex fuels, it’s a solution perfectly tailored to meet the unique needs of the Brazilian market.
