A winning combination! 🏀👨🍳 Last week, we partnered with the Detroit Pistons for the Ready, Set, Cook competition as part of Pistons FIT. Students from our SandCastles Grief Support Program collaborated with Pistons legend Grant Long and NBA champion Lindsey Hunter to create delicious, healthy meals for a panel of judges. It was a fun and flavorful victory for everyone involved! 🍽️

Groundbreaking research from our pancreatic cancer center revealed race-associated molecular differences in tumors that could impact how patients respond to immunotherapy. 🧬 In the study recently published by the American Association for Cancer Research, our researchers found that Black patients showed a higher prevalence of PD-L1 overexpression, a marker often linked with aggressive cancer behavior and a key target for immunotherapy treatments. Patients in the study also showed higher frequencies of of TP53 mutations and KRASG12R mutations that affect how quickly cancer grows and the body's ability to fight cancer. “This finding strongly supports that in clinical trials across the country, we need to enroll patients from different racial groups to reflect the racial makeup in the U.S. and to more accurately represent tumor molecular changes,” shared our lead researcher Dr. Ling Huang. At 90 years old, Delores, a Detroit resident, is gaining newfound independence thanks to a donated scooter from Henry Ford Hospital. This gift, made possible through the generosity of our parking services team and a collaboration with the City of Detroit, will help enhance Delores’ mobility and quality of life. “We believe community engagement is more than just responding in times of need—it’s about fostering lasting relationships and creating meaningful impact,” said Barry Blackwell, our manager of community relations. Special thanks to John “JP” Perez, our director of parking services at Henry Ford Hospital, for securing Delores’ scooter and to Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield for ensuring the scooter found a home with someone who needed it. 💙
