Making a difference, one patient at a time! 💙 Shailyn Vanase, a labor and delivery nurse at The William W. Backus Hospital has been honored with the The DAISY Foundation Award for her outstanding care and compassion. 🎉 The DAISY Award is given to nurses who go above and beyond to provide patients and families with outstanding, compassionate clinical care. Many patients have expressed gratitude for the exceptional care they've received from nurse Shailyn. One even said: “From our very first introduction, Shailyn made it clear that she was patient centered and cared deeply about her patients. She was so attentive and helped us get the supplies we needed. Shailyn saw us eating our celebration dinner standing up and wanted to make it a little more special, so she set up our trays, brought us an extra chair and poured our sparkling apple cider for my husband and I and my parents. It was so special.” Thank you, Shailyn, for bringing so much care and compassion every day. Please join us in congratulating and celebrating her on this fantastic achievement! 🏆

Today is #WorldHealthDay. 🌎 And World Health Organization is kicking off a year-long campaign on maternal and newborn health. Hartford HealthCare is dedicated to helping every woman and baby survive and thrive, listening to women and supporting families, and so much more. Health systems across the world must evolve to manage the many health issues that impact maternal and newborn health. These not only include direct obstetric complications but also mental health conditions, noncommunicable diseases, and family planning. We encourage you to help spread awareness, donate to the WHO Foundation which supports WHO's work to protect mothers and babies in countries around the world, and share your personal experiences or stories of pregnancy and birth and highlight those who provide quality care. ❤️ Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/d8nVsj82

In honor of World Doula Week, we had the privilege of bringing together community doulas and maternal health colleagues for a special networking event hosted by the Maternal Health Equity Program and Women’s Health Services. This event was all about building relationships and celebrating the incredible impact of the Doula Partnership Program. From fun, interactive activities to inspiring presentations from leaders in maternal health, it was a night full of connection, learning, and celebration.

In honor of National Donate Life Month celebrated in April each year, we encourage you to get educated on living organ donation and how you can become someone’s real-life superhero. 🚨 What you should know: ⭐️ Donors must be at least 18, but there is no age limit if you’re in good health. Don’t rule yourself out even if you think you might not qualify. Anyone considering living donation essentially goes through the best physical of his or her life –and will be evaluated thoroughly by the transplant team. ⭐️ Not a match? Not a problem. You can join a Kidney Swap Program that allows incompatible pairs to participate in a kidney-paired exchange. ⭐️ Living donors pay zero costs related to surgery. Evaluation and surgery are covered by Medicare or the recipient’s insurance. ⭐️ Hartford HealthCare now pays 100% of a full-time employee’s salary for up to six weeks if they donate an organ and have the transplant done at Hartford Hospital. The new benefit is designed to give peace of mind to employees who want to give their extraordinary gift but are unsure about the financial impact of taking several weeks off from work. If you're interested in becoming a living donor, shoot us a message to learn more! ❤️
