Last month, Moda Center had the privilege of hosting the Green Sports Alliance Reuse Symposium on March 18th. The excitement and energy in the room made it clear—reuse isn’t just a trend, it’s the future of waste reduction in sports and live events. One of my favorite parts of the day was hearing from others about where they are on their reuse journeys—and getting to share the Trail Blazers' story of Rip City Reuse, from a scrappy pilot to a full-scale program reshaping how fans engage with sustainability at our venue. Even more special was having two of our behind-the-scenes MVPs, Kirsten Talabere and Dell O'Neal, join our panel to share their operational expertise. They’re a big reason Rip City Reuse works—and a great reminder that success in sustainability starts with the people who power it every day. Huge shoutout to Bold Reuse, our incredible reuse partner, for making this program possible and continuing to drive circular solutions forward. And of course, thank you to Green Sports Alliance and Katie Gavitt for bringing together such a passionate, innovative group of leaders to move this work ahead. Last month, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Green Sports Alliance's Reuse Symposium at the Moda Center in Portland. On Friday, I joined the Bold Reuse Portland Facility Tour, led by the inspiring Jocelyn Gaudi Quarrell, CEO of Bold Reuse. Later that evening, I attended the Green Game at the Moda Center—Blazers vs. Wizards—where I got to see Bold Reuse in action, along with OSCAR's AI Sorting Software, the AI-powered recycling and waste-sorting machine designed for public-facing waste collection. Saturday was the main event—the symposium itself—packed with insightful panels, interactive breakout sessions, and amazing networking opportunities. One of the breakout sessions I went to was run by a group of grad students from Columbia University, and they crushed it! They did a super in-depth analysis on the environmental impact of a stadium reuse cup vs. a single-use one—and honestly, it was such a cool project. Even better, I got to meet them all and ended up hanging out with them for the entire symposium. So proud of everything they put together and excited to see where they go next! Chandler Precht, Rowen Carrick, and Kaitlin Reese.  A special highlight was the Moda Stadium Waste Tour, led by the fabulous Kirsten Talabere, who gave a small group of us a behind-the-scenes look at the venue’s impressive sustainability initiatives. I had such a great time reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new people who are just as passionate about sustainability in sports. This experience reaffirmed my belief that sustainability in this industry is possible—and it’s exactly where I want to be. And of course, a HUGE shout-out to my two right-hand gals who were by my side throughout the symposium: Jordan Spradlin, MPH, and Jamie McMurray—two incredible women in sustainability whom I deeply admire.
