You could be living in a pharmacy desert, reports Drug Store News with research from GoodRx. “We’ve been tracking pharmacy and healthcare deserts since 2019,” GoodRx's Senior Director of Research Tori Marsh told Drug Store News. “There’s been more pharmacy closures over the past six to 12 months. This past Saturday, GoodRx participated in the Community Health Fair + 5K at East Los Angeles College, hosted by Be Social Productions. We connected with the community by distributing gift bags to 5K participants, sharing GoodRx resources, and educating attendees on how to save on their medications using GoodRx. A huge thank you to our partners at the National Hispanic Pharmacists Association, who provided 300+ cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood glucose screenings, along with in-language medical consultations to help attendees understand their results. Many of those screened shared that they were uninsured or underinsured, and one person expressed their immense gratitude, stating that this was their first-ever opportunity to speak with a healthcare provider. Moments like these highlight the critical need for accessible healthcare and reaffirm the impact of our work in supporting underserved communities.
