When you think of batteries 🔋, you probably imagine the ones piled up in your junk drawer. But did you know that Georgia Power operates a battery energy storage facility connected directly to the grid near Columbus? ⚡️ Battery energy storage helps keep our grid reliable and supports our diverse generation mix by storing 65 megawatts of energy that can be deployed in the blink of an eye. 🔌⚡️That's four hours of power ready to go on cold winter mornings or overcast days when an energy source like solar power may not be available. #BatteryPower #GridReliability #SolarEnergy #GeorgiaPower

Today, we had the privilege of joining state lawmakers for a special event at the Georgia State Capitol alongside dozens of lineworkers, representatives from the state's electric membership corporations (EMCs), and municipal electric providers. During the event, Senator John Kennedy read and signed Senate Resolution 253, recognizing March 11, 2025, as Georgia Linemen Day. This day acknowledges the tremendous sacrifices made by lineworkers during Hurricane Helene – the most destructive storm in Georgia Power’s more than 140-year history. As highlighted in the resolution, “Hurricane Helene was a devastating hurricane that ravaged multiple areas of Georgia. Linemen were on the front lines, sometimes working up to 18-hour days in hazardous conditions to restore power to thousands of residents in the wake of widespread outages caused by downed power lines and infrastructure damage.” "A lineworker's job is never done, and today we’re honored to join Senator Kennedy and state leaders to celebrate the unwavering commitment and sacrifice of all the lineworkers across the state who diligently serve us each and every day," said Kim Greene, chairman, president and CEO of Georgia Power. “The response to Hurricane Helene was truly a time when every Georgian came together, and we rose to the challenge as a state at every level. We appreciate the continued leadership and support of our state’s elected officials for our teams in the field, who are truly heroes who stand ready to respond no matter what. They are always here for Georgia.” Click here to learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDfsaM4s #GeorgiaLinemenDay #HurricaneHelene #GeorgiaPower #Heroes #Leadership #Community

Meet Teagan Rea! 🌟 Her journey to becoming an apprentice #lineman was anything but easy, but her dedication and drive pushed her through. For #WomensHistoryMonth, we wanted to shine a spotlight on her incredible journey. 💪 Teagan Rea joined the Air Force in 1999, serving two tours as a firefighter and EMT. Three days after returning from her deployment to Iraq, she was involved in a vehicle accident. Her left frontal lobe which controls memory & cognitive functions sustained damaged, along with mobility loss. Despite this, she refused to listen to those who said she couldn't do what she loved. After 9 years of cognitive and physical therapies, she ran her first block again. This determination led her to linework and eventually to Georgia Power. However, only two years into her apprenticeship, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and suffered a torn bicep. After undergoing radiation and surgeries, she is now back in the field, working every day for Georgians. ⚡ Teagan Rea is a testament to the phrase, "When one door closes, find another." She inspires everyone around her and our crew to keep pushing forward, reminding us that "can't" isn't a word we should use. #Inspiration #WomenInPower #GeorgiaPower #Resilience #Dedication

🌟 Even though it is #EmployeeAppreciationWeek, our team wanted to spend it giving back to our community! They have been busy this week volunteering, gathering donations, and much more. Here is a quick look at what they've been up to: 🏡 Our Milledgeville team had the privilege of helping Habitat for Humanity with their latest house build. With teamwork and lots of laughter throughout the day, we installed vinyl siding to the new home. Our Chapter was grateful for the opportunity to support Habitat in Milledgeville and get this house a little closer to completion for a family in our community. 🛒 Our crew from Plant Yates came together to shop for and fill six Little Free Pantries with food, ensuring that those in need have access to essential items. 📚 Our VOICE employee resource group volunteered at Avondale Elementary School’s Career Day! Thank you for inspiring the next generation of energy leaders. 📖 Our Area Manager George Crews spent his day reading at Point South Elementary. He got just as much out of it when the students taught him how to make a snowflake! ❄️ 🏠 Our Atlanta crew spent the morning volunteering at Covenant House, GA, a low-barrier shelter for youth and young adults escaping human trafficking and homelessness. Volunteers deep cleaned the kitchen, sorted clothing, and brought some new supplies for both spaces. We could not be more proud of our incredible crew! 👏💙✨ #GAPowerfulService #VolunteerWork #GeorgiaPower #ACitizenWhereverWeServe
