Spring is in full bloom, and it was always one of Mrs. Bush’s favorite seasons. She found joy in planting flowers in her Kennebunkport garden patiently watching them grow year after year. She once said, “Volunteer and philanthropic work is a lot like planting peonies — you may not see the results right away, but you are planting seeds that one day will sprout and bloom forever.” As we enjoy the beauty of spring, we’re reminded of the lasting impact of kindness, service, and giving back.

We are proud to participate in #GlobalVolunteerMonth and celebrate volunteers worldwide. We started last week by helping honor a George H.W. Bush Library & Museum dedicated volunteer, Chris Allen, with a Points of Light Daily Point of Light Award. President Bush created the award to recognize individuals for their outstanding commitment to service and civic engagement. Chris goes above and beyond, volunteering 1,100+ hours a year—leading VIP tours, assisting with community events, and supporting the library’s audiovisual department. With a background as a U.S. Air Force photographer and work with the White House Communications Agency (WHCA), he brings a unique perspective to his service. “President Bush championed volunteerism and encouraged Americans to be points of light in their communities,” Chris shares. “The more people who embrace that spirit, the better off we’ll all be.” Join us in celebrating Chris and all volunteers who make a difference! The George & Barbara Bush Foundation joins fellow Americans as we mourn the loss of Senator Alan K. Simpson. Senator Simpson’s life was a testament to friendship, integrity, and dedicated public service. With a sharp wit and unwavering principles, he brought people together, championed bipartisanship, and led with honesty and humility. His deep loyalty and respect for others made him not only a remarkable leader but also a cherished friend to many, including President and Mrs. Bush. President Bush chose Senator Simpson to be one of his eulogists at his funeral in 2018, where his poignant remarks caused the congregation and viewers around the world to both laugh and cry. A proud son of Wyoming, Senator Simpson served with courage, decency, and a steadfast love for his country. His legacy lives on through the policies he shaped and the countless lives he touched. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ann and all of the Simpson family.
