The GEM Foundation, GEM’s employee-led grantmaking committee, was honored to sponsor last week’s Social Venture Partners Charlotte #SEED20 Onstage event! Since 2012, the SEED20 program has been cultivating some of Charlotte’s most prolific and inspiring nonprofit entrepreneurs, each of whom has committed themselves to addressing our community’s most pressing needs. Congratulations to the SEED20 Class of 2025 – a group of dynamic leaders whose organizations are tackling challenges ranging from safe and accessible transit to access to affordable art supplies – and to all of the coaches and community partners that were involved in making this year’s event a success. It’s always such a pleasure to speak with Courtney McQuade – this year, we had the opportunity to discuss GEM’s approach to independent sponsors and why we focus on alignment as a key indicator of long-term relationship success with managers. Many thanks to the teams at ALTS, CAIA Association, CFA Society Los Angeles, and Markets Group for the opportunity to speak at this year’s #ALTSLA event. Looking forward to next year!
What makes the emerging manager landscape worth watching right now? At our #ALTSLA 10th Anniversary event, we spoke with Stephanie Lynch of GEM, who shared her take on why institutional investors are paying closer attention to independent sponsors and how alignment between LPs and GPs can drive performance — especially in uncertain markets. #ALTSLA #MarketsGroupALTS #EmergingManagers Markets Group CAIA Association CFA Society Los Angeles CalALTs (The California Alternative Investments Association) Paul Hamann Debra Haym Karly Congero Hema Ezhil Nicole Lopez Katie Merch-Chammon Zung Tranova Serena Wright Will Hamilton-Hill Stevie Jacobson Gabriela McNicholl Olivia Obregon Yesenia Valle Fadumo Omer Courtney McQuade

In their latest “Women in PE and Finance to Know” feature, McGuireWoods LLP profiled Caroline Dallas, a Director in our Investment Research Group. Caroline shares what drew her to institutional investing, her observations on the challenges facing women in private equity, and the various ways GEM seeks to support emerging managers. On her advice for these managers, she says: “Seek out the advice of different constituents in this part of the ecosystem…The key is to make sure you have the right people around the table — those who will support you as you learn how to build your own business. You might be a great investor, but there’s a lot more that comes along with entrepreneurship.” Read the full Q&A here: https://lnkd.in/e6VMNsij #WomenInPE #MWPEWomen #PrivateEquity #EmergingManagers
