  • A recap of Rome 🇮🇹 A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this year’s GCube Renewable Energy Risk Seminar! We’re excited to share a highlights reel for those who couldn’t be there in person. Our annual event continues to be a vital platform for industry leaders to come together and discuss how we can collaborate to build sustainable #insurance offerings and accelerate the #EnergyTransition. This year, we focused on a few key areas: the evolving landscape for #renewables investment and revenues in Europe, alongside the rising scale and complexity of renewable projects and the critical infrastructure that supports them. Lenders, developers, insurers, and brokers all shared valuable perspectives - and we also gave attendees a preview of our latest market insights report, “Known Unknowns”, leading to discussion on the growing threat of Nat Cat and extreme weather to projects outside of the US. Stay tuned for our report launch shortly!

  • We gathered this morning for day two of our Roman Renewable Energy Risk Seminar 🇮🇹 Today we focused on two core themes: the changing landscape for renewables investment and revenues in Europe, and the intensifying threat posed by Nat Cat and extreme weather to projects outside of the US. -      Niels Jakeman, CFA gave us NORD/LB’s view of the European investment and financing landscape for renewables and BESS – highlighting some of the shared challenges faced by lenders and insurers, and how the insurance sector can help deliver the energy transition. -       GCube’s James Totton provided an exclusive preview of our upcoming Nat Cat report, ‘Known Unknowns’, calling into question the notion that extreme weather is a ‘US-only’ concern. Better data, smarter design and stronger resilience are needed to respond to the growing threat across Europe, MENA and APAC. -      Elena Donzelli took a deep dive into Pexapark’s PPA market data, looking at the ominous trend of negative pricing spreading across Europe, and how renewables buyers and sellers are adapting to manage this risk. Bringing the Seminar to a close, Willis Towers Watson’s Steven Munday joined a panel with Niels, James McCallum, and James Totton to discuss the impact of Nat Cat and extreme weather on the insurability and bankability of renewables projects globally. Pooling together lender, insurance, and broker perspectives, the panel debated what can be done to foster early engagement on these risk exposures - before a major loss hits a European project. We’re off now for a golf cart tour of the ancient sites of Rome! 🏛️ Many thanks again to our speakers, and to our highly engaged group of insureds and brokers who make this unique event possible. #renewable #energy #insurance

When in Rome… we talk about renewables insurance! 🇮🇹 ⚡   We’ve just wrapped up the first day of GCube’s Renewable Energy Risk Seminar 2025 in Rome, Italy. A key theme for today was the rising scale and complexity of renewables projects – and the critical energy infrastructure that makes them possible. Talking points included:   -      How insurance offerings need to evolve to support the renewables market and the wider green transformation, courtesy of Fraser McLachlan. "There is no such thing as a simple project any more"   -      A unique perspective on risk management for multi-technology ‘megaprojects’ in MENA and beyond, from Anup Chackunny at Masdar   -      James McCallum’s view on why there can be "no transition without transmission" – and insights into the progress of SSE’s large-scale interconnector and HVDC projects   -      Tales from an offshore wind underwriter – our very own Andries Veldstra – highlighting that there’s "no need to be depressed" amid geopolitical uncertainty   -      Challenging real-world claims scenarios, role-played by Roy Munoz and Paul Nicholls in our regular 'theatrical' feature ‘Better Call Paul’   Our annual event for leaders in European renewable energy insurance is a forum for sharing knowledge and open discussion of the key risks – and opportunities – facing the market. Stay tuned for updates from day two!   #renewable #energy #insurance

  • GCube is doubling down on its commitment to the US renewables sector with the addition of three new Associate Underwriters to our New York office! A big welcome to Dariano Moore, Charles Madigan, and Steven Anderson, who join our growing team as we continue to invest in the next generation of underwriting talent. Despite the challenges facing the US renewables market – including an uncertain backdrop of political support and rising exposure to extreme weather - GCube remains fully committed to supporting the sector and growing its business further still. A key part of our dedication to a robust renewables insurance market lies in addressing the skills gap by developing the future of underwriting talent. Join us in celebrating our new team members!
