We work with local governments & communities to accelerate progress and inspire systemic change.

About us

FUSE is dedicated to freeing our country from the social and economic barriers to opportunities that have been perpetuated by a history of systemic and institutionalized racism. We partner with local governments and communities to more effectively address pressing challenges by placing experienced professionals in local government agencies. These FUSE Executive Fellows lead strategic projects that are designed to accelerate progress and advance racial equity. We are also dedicated to sharing the insights that emerge from our work to inspire all civic leaders to think and act differently in their efforts to achieve systemic change. Our work focuses on issues such as affordable housing and homelessness; workforce training and living-wage jobs; pandemic response and health equity; education reform and digital access; public safety and justice reform; climate resilience and green infrastructure; and more. FUSE has worked on over 250 projects in 42 cities and counties across 18 states serving a combined population of 25 million people. The majority of our alumni continue to work in civic leadership and nearly all our government partners return each year with requests for additional projects.

🌎 Climate Planning | Carbon Measurement | Operational Strategy | Net Zero | Healthy People on a Habitable Planet

This week our FUSE cohort gathered to prepare for the final 6 months of our 2-year journeys with local government partners. We celebrated: millions secured to build #infrastructure that connects communities; proposals that will save millions in #energy costs for #affordablehousing; the launch of new #urbanforestry and #community resilience networks; participation and representation from hundreds of people who previously had not interacted with government on topics of #transportation, #sustainability, and #resilience; and, of course, the bi-partisan adoption of a #Climate Action Plan here in Washoe County. Members of our cohort have also done #greeneconomy labor forecasting, and the need is huge. As we plan for ongoing sustainability and growth of our projects in a constrained climate funding environment, we're prepared to accomplish as much as we can in the remaining 6 months of our Fellowship while also engaging other departments and community members and seeking alternative funding strategies or project staging solutions. This determined, passionate, creative group has already made such a positive impact in Durham, DeKalb County, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Travis County, SLC, and Hayward, and—for you and your communities—I hope all the visions on your 5-year mood boards come true. ✨

Merging Sustainability with AI-powered Learning for a Brighter Tomorrow | I share tips on how to build and enable net zero organizations | CEO & Co-Founder @ Empacto

🚨 241 million green jobs by 2030… but who’s going to fill them? The green economy is booming. From solar panels to electric trucks, the future is bright 🌱 But there’s one big problem: We don’t have enough skilled people to make it happen. Green job demand is growing 4x faster than green skills. That’s like building a spaceship… with no astronauts. 👉 Many workers have the right skills but don’t list them. 👉 Companies are training from scratch when they don’t have to. 👉 Countries are losing talent to others offering better opportunities. So what do we do? 🟢 Encourage people to share their green skills proudly (no, it’s not greenwashing). 🟢 Create clear, trusted green certifications. 🟢 Get governments and businesses to team up on green training. The clock is ticking. If we want a greener world, we need a greener-skilled workforce — and we need it now. Let’s get to work 💪 #GreenJobs #Sustainability #FutureOfWork #NetZero #GreenSkills #WorkforceDevelopment Source: Global Green Skills Gap Research Report

Even though Travis County has higher internet subscription and computer ownership rates than the national and state percentages, not everyone in the community is able to fully participate in digital work and access the essential services and resources they need. Our strategic partnership with Travis County brought critical insights to life, uncovering barriers to digital access and creating a roadmap for meaningful community connectivity. By embedding talent and expertise, FUSE helps local governments tackle complex challenges and drive systemic change. Reyda Taylor first supported the County in developing a comprehensive county-wide digital inclusion strategy as a FUSE Executive Fellow (2022–23). Now, she acts as a strategic advisor to the County and helped build out the Broadband and Digital Equity Needs Assessment. #FUSEImpact #CommunityChange #SocialImpact #DigitalEquity #CommunityInnovation
