West Harris County Regional Water Authority is on track to achieve their goal of 60% surface water by 2025, and a new 9-mile pipeline through an urban corridor will help by delivering 150+ MGD of water. Freese and Nichols partnered with WHCRWA and program manager Gannett Fleming to design the line for the Surface Water Supply Project, which took home Water Project of the Year at the 2025 Underground Infrastructure Magazine awards. Our #Florida offices hosted their first #WomensHistoryMonth event, bringing team members together for a day of connection and celebration. #Jacksonville, our first all-female office in Freese and Nichols history, joined forces with #Tampa to kick off the festivities. The event featured trivia bingo during lunch, highlighting fun facts and achievements of Florida’s female personnel, followed by a Women’s History Month-themed canvas painting activity organized by the Florida Fun Team, showcasing the significance of the colors of purple, green and white. We love seeing our team #EngageAsFamily and champion initiatives that celebrate and uplift one another.

All around the world, drip bucket irrigation is making a difference by helping households reduce #water usage, improve food security, and boost health and nutrition for families who grow their own food. Bringing this #sustainable technology to more communities, our Fluvial Ecosystem Restoration (FER) geologists Stephen Norair II, P.G. and Connor Kee, P.G. recently joined an interfaith volunteer effort to assemble 87 drip irrigation kits. These kits will support over 200 people growing essential crops through organizations like Intuba and other groups throughout the next year. We’re grateful to Stephen and Connor for taking the time to #serve and apply their expertise to make a lasting impact on communities in need. #ServeAlways

Texas’ #water needs are getting plenty of attention in the Legislature this session. A key question centers on the right balance between developing new sources and repairing aging #infrastructure. Both are essential, Tom Gooch, one of Freese and Nichols’ most experienced water planners, told The Texas Tribune: “You've got to keep your system functioning well, and you've got to go find additional water to put into the system, to appropriately use your resources to get both those things done.” Read more: https://bit.ly/4iIJ4KE

Celebrating a breakthrough for water security on the Texas Coast: TCEQ approves the permit for the first municipal seawater desalination facility project in #Texas.   The original permit application was submitted in 2020 for a roughly 30 million gallon per day seawater desalination facility at the Corpus Christi Inner Harbor – an environmentally conscious, climate-resilient water supply solution for #CorpusChristi and the Texas Coastal Bend, areas that have been experiencing unprecedented extreme drought conditions.   Freese and Nichols has been supporting the City of Corpus Christi’s #water supply development for many years and leading its seawater desalination program for nearly a decade.
