The 2025 Industry Advisory Board meeting marked an excellent start for the Silicon Carbide Innovation Alliance! On Wednesday, March 19th, we welcomed 27 individuals from 19 commercial and government organizations to discuss the alliance structure and activities. Congressman Glenn (GT) Thompson and PSU SVPR Andrew Read welcomed the group, which totaled over 40 attendees. Director Josh Robinson provided an exciting update on the progress of the onsemi SiC3 facility, which now has 4 PVT furnaces installed (including one at 200mm) and tools for processing the boules to epi-ready surfaces. The facility also includes a clean room, a hot zone prep room, and some characterization equipment to complement the full suite of characterization tools in MRI's Materials Characterization Lab. The advisory board, comprising 10 companies, approved 4 projects to start within the next month in the areas of improved hot zone materials, impact of source material, optimized diamond slurries, and in-situ x-ray imaging of boule growth. The projects represent a research investment of roughly $500K. We are actively recruiting new members to the alliance so that we may increase the research investment using membership fees.
