Park rangers in Thailand captured trail cam footage of the elusive clouded leopard with a cub! The 6-8 month cub signifies the population is in good enough health for breeding. Trail cams are an important conservation tool as these motion-sensor cameras allow scientists to capture data on elusive species like the clouded leopard without disturbing them. Argentina's jaguars are threatened by human-wildlife conflict, habitat loss and fragmentation, stemming from human disturbance. Connectivity with populations in Paraguay, Bolivia, and Brazil is critical to their survival. Conservation efforts include translocations, captive breeding, and habitat restoration, aimed at increasing genetic diversity. Protecting this apex predator can also protect countless co-occurring species. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gqzHq6jx #jaguar #argentina #conservation #humanwildlifeconflict

Cheetahs no longer inhabit over 90% of their historic range, largely due to habitat fragmentation and urban expansion. Cheetahs require large territories, traveling vast distances, and they exist at low densities. One of the last remaining areas of suitable habitat is Tsavo National Park. This area is a unique and crucial region for cheetah conservation and will be integral to their success story. The European wildcat is a unique species and ranges across most of Europe. However, it is at risk due to hybridization with domestic cats, leading to loss of genetic diversity. Do you think you could tell the difference between the two? Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dnmWBE9i #europeanwildcat #hybridization #Europe #wildcat

Wildlife like the jaguar can move vast distances in search of resources or partners. Animals do not adhere to national boundaries and therefore any barriers can be detrimental to their survival. The construction of the Mexico-America border wall will lead to vast amounts of wildlife being displaced and cut off large pools of genetic diversity. The IUCN’s Green status listings describe how well a species is recovering, and it describes their ‘full conservation story’, complementing the IUCN Red List. Unfortunately, for lions, the 1st green status assessment describes them as ‘largely depleted’, and highlights that more intensive conservation actions are needed to prevent this species from further declines. Rare footage of a mother and 3 grown cub snow leopards from the snowy cliffs of Northern Pakistan. While there is concern about protecting livestock, the community is excited about this rare sighting and interested in its conservation. Pakistan is vulnerable to the effects of climate change, which will impact snow leopards and others inhabiting the ecosystem. In the early 1900s, overhunting wiped out cougars in Michigan. Now, it seems they might be coming back. Earlier this month, 2 cubs were seen running along the road. This sighting could mean cougars are starting to return to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gh3VFkeg #cougar #michigan #conservation #wildcat
