Thanks for talking to us, St. Louis Public Radio. There are too many families who’ve lost loved ones to homicide or overdose inside a state facility. https://lnkd.in/e9zVNzkc

Arizona’s prison system is in dire need of reform. SB 1507 proposes the establishment of an independent prison oversight office to improve conditions, ensure transparency, and hold officials accountable. Families, lawmakers, and taxpayers deserve solutions. Let's advocate for progress—encourage your state Representative to vote YES on SB 1507. Together, we can improve prison conditions and bring accountability to the system! https://lnkd.in/efChz37S Cc: Bryan Widenhouse

Prisons were not originally structured for rehabilitation, however our society and criminal justice system has changed, and we now know that rehabilitation is important to reducing recidivism and keeping the public safe. If we are to adequately address the converging crises of understaffing and overincarceration, a key piece of that work is re-imagining prisons to prioritize rehabilitation. As State Legislative Affairs Manager at FAMM, Matthew Charles, explains, "If we actually focus on rehabilitation, then when people are released, they can be productive members of society, not just former prisoners struggling to get by."
