About us
Fair Haven Community Health Care was started in 1971 by community members and volunteers who wanted to initiate health services for the Fair Haven neighborhood. The vision of the Community Health Center was born in this era and grew from the premise that health care should be a right of all people regardless of their ability to pay. With a commitment to serving the New Haven, Branford and East Haven communities, FHCHC takes a holistic approach to health, linking medical services, pharmacy services, dental services, and behavioral health. FHCHC has grown from the small store front to a complex, multifaceted primary care center that currently serves more than 36,000 patients with over 150,000 visits per year.

Dr. Molly Markowitz, a pediatrician at our 150 Sargent Drive location, took part in a news conference advocating for a Permanent Child Tax Credit that aims to provide much-needed financial relief to Connecticut families. Markowitz stressed that research has shown that tax credits are a powerful anti-poverty tool. In Connecticut, 23% of Black children and 27% of Hispanic children live in poverty, compared to 6% of White non-Hispanic children. “Children who experience food insecurity, unstable housing, family violence and parental mental health issues are more likely to develop significant conditions such as obesity, asthma and educational difficulties, as well as emotional and behavioral challenges,” Markowitz said.
