Championing Motion: The High-Performance Value of Cervical Arthroplasty for Myelopathy, a personal journey. In 2012, a trampoline injury led to a severe cervical disc herniation and myelopathy, causing radicular arm numbness and gait changes. As a Chairman of Education for arthroplasty for several years, I opted for a Prodisc C arthroplasty instead of a fusion, driven by my passion for maintaining motion, flexibility, and a high-performance lifestyle. Thirteen years later, at age 61, I’m grateful for that choice. I’ve returned to full activities, including skiing, full-court basketball, open-level tennis, golf, and a committed five-day-per-week fitness routine. I’ve climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro just eight months post-surgery with Livestrong leadership, competed twice in the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona (2019, 2020) in the Prototype class (including a podium finish), and still run a busy microneurosurgical spine reconstruction practice and have founded and led an AI enhanced Surgical Software Performance company ( eXeX). I want to thank my surgeon, Mitchell Supler, MD at Orlando Health Orlando, for helping me maintain a life of high performance. My experience has consistently validated that arthroplasty can be a game-changer for the right patient profile, especially those who refuse to settle for less in their athletic or professional pursuits. If you’re considering your spine surgery options, especially for myelopathy, here’s proof that the right approach can preserve and even enhance, your ability to excel. Check out the video below.
