Episcopal Community Services (ECS) has provided essential services to homeless San Franciscans since 1982.

About us

Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco (ECS) helps homeless and very low-income people every day and every night obtain the housing, jobs, shelter, and essential services that each person needs to prevent and end homelessness. The complex nature of homelessness calls for a multifaceted solution. Our agency was founded in 1983 to help the growing number of people living on the streets of San Francisco. Today, we serve more than 14,200 men, women, and children through a continuum of services, including emergency shelters, supportive housing, employment and education programs, information and referral, and senior services. ECS is a 501)c)(3) organization, and all donation are tax deductible.

  • Happy 30th Anniversary to ECS’ Canon Kip Senior Center! 🎉 For three decades, Canon Kip has been a vital space for seniors in our community – providing meals, connection, and support for some of our most vulnerable neighbors. Yesterday, we came together to celebrate this milestone with music, performances, and a packed house. As part of the celebration, we were honored to receive recognition from Juslyn Manalo, a longtime member of the Canon Kip community and part of Mayor Lurie's Office of Community Engagement. Kelly Dearman (SF Dept. of Disability and Aging Services) also shared some words, and Senator Wiener’s office recognized the occasion with a certificate. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported Canon Kip over the years. This work wouldn’t be possible without you! Here’s to many more years of service, community, and care. 🥂

  • On March 31st, we celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility, honoring the contributions of trans and non-binary individuals worldwide. Today is not just about being seen, it’s about being acknowledged, respected and supported. In San Francisco, numerous organizations are dedicated to supporting and uplifting the trans and LGBTQ+ community, including: @ sfcenter.org 💙 @ lyric.org 🩷 @ sfcommunityhealth.org 🤍 Despite the invaluable services these organizations provide, they face challenges due to federal policies threatening to withdraw funding from programs that provide transgender care, or support diversity, equity, and inclusion. #TransDayOfVisibility

  • March is Social Work Month! To wrap up the month, this year’s theme, Social Work: Compassion + Action, highlights the critical role social workers play in tackling some of our most pressing issues, including homelessness, mental health, income inequality, and more. At ECS, our REACH program embodies this theme by equipping individuals with lived experience of homelessness with the skills and certifications they need to build careers in the social and human services sectors. ECS is proud to offer this program. Thank you to the social workers of ECS, the participants of our REACH program, and social workers around the world. Make sure to show some love to social workers during #SocialWorkMonth (and every month!) 📩 Interested in becoming a REACH student or know someone who might be? • We’re celebrating the opening of 7th & Brannan, a brand-new, 100% affordable housing community in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood. Meet Mr. Reason (pictured here), one of the newest residents. He’s thrilled about getting the keys to his new home 🏡 This development offers deeply affordable, service-enriched housing for families, individuals, and those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. With outdoor courtyards, community rooms, on-site supportive services, and family-friendly spaces, it’s easy to see why Mr. Reason is all smiles 😊 (S/O Grace Cathedral volunteers for helping with move-in. We appreciate you!) Managed by Mercy Housing, with case management and behavioral health services provided by ECS, and clinical nursing services from San Francisco Department of Public Health, this collaboration is creating real solutions for our community. #HousingForAll #SanFrancisco
