Great to see another electric truck ready to roll through the eFREIGHT 2030 project, making its mark in accelerating the shift to zero emission HGVs - and this one is a real head turner! With its striking livery to mark 70 years with the Transport Association, Welch Group’s 42T Renault Trucks UK E-Tech T showcases both progress in sustainable logistics and the strength of longstanding industry collaboration, which are powering the eFREIGHT 2030 mission, too.
Managing Director at Welch Group, Championing the Movement to EV Sustainable Logistics & Distribution in the UK
What happens when you mix the old with the new…. Hopefully a bloody beautiful electric truck! 🚛😍🔋 Sitting in the workshop WTL Truck and Van Centre, Duxford, Cambridge is our latest 42t BEV being liveried by Paul and his amazing team at Sign Art Cambridge. This vehicle is to celebrate the Transport Association 70th anniversary and handily our 70th year of membership as the oldest serving member. This collaboration built across the decades is the cornerstone of where we have got to today! As always powered by Renault Trucks UK and eFREIGHT 2030 the Innovate UK ZEHID demonstrator program. See if you can see the ‘steely-eyed’ previous three generations of Welch Group directors- I obviously didn’t make it because I smile too much! As ever we’re “more than transport”! #ZEHID #transportassociation #history #BEVs

Check out Energy Systems Catapult's latest report for eFREIGHT 2030 which takes a detailed look at the challenges of eHGV procurement—from financial hurdles to practical solutions 🔋 🚚 It also explores alternative purchasing models that can make costs more predictable for operators, offering valuable insights for anyone considering an investment in eHGVs.
The transition to electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs) is a key step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. But fleet operators face significant financial hurdles. The eFREIGHT 2030 consortium’s latest report reveals the complexities of eHGV procurement, focusing on: 🚛 High upfront costs of electric vehicles 🚛 Uncertainty around residual values 🚛 Lack of clear total cost of ownership (TCO) data It explores both traditional and innovative purchasing models that offer better financial predictability. It’s time to rethink how we invest in the future of transport. Download the report here: https://lnkd.in/e6HFxP4C

Tarmac & TVS Interfleet join eFREIGHT 2030! 🔋 We’re proud to have Tarmac and TVS Interfleet join the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium, their involvement is key in helping to demonstrate eHGV performance and operational capabilities in challenging use cases such as construction. Tarmac is adding five eHGVs to its fleet as part of the eFREIGHT 2030 project - four Renault Trucks UK and one DAF Trucks UK - paired with a fast-charging network in London to boost range and cut emissions in construction logistics. TVS Interfleet’s Wilcox Commercial Vehicles will supply a trailer with advanced safety features, with the new eHGVs set to join Tarmac’s eDiscovery Programme for real-world trials. Here’s what Michael Boxwell, Group Chief Executive Officer at VOLTEMPO and eFREIGHT 2030 consortium project lead had to say: 🗣️ “We are delighted to welcome Tarmac and TVS Interfleet to the eFREIGHT 2030 consortium. The addition of electric construction vehicles to the ZEHID programme, including their deployment at several of Tarmac’s Greater London sites, is an exciting milestone. With TVS Interfleet, Tarmac continues to lead the decarbonisation of the construction sector, and we are delighted to bring their innovation and ambition into the ZEHID programme and to further extend the reach of eHGVs into the most demanding transport sectors.” Read the full story here – https://bit.ly/42hGMLr Innovate UK, Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, Kuehne+Nagel, Maritime Transport Ltd, Menzies Distribution, Welch Group, Wincanton, Marks and Spencer, DAF Trucks UK, Renault Trucks UK, Scania UK, DYNAMON, VOLTEMPO, Fleete Group, Energy Systems Catapult, Berkeley Sportscars, Tarmac, Expect Distribution Ltd , Green Collar™ and TVS Interfleet.

Great to see this major development underway, with eFREIGHT 2030 consortium member Fleete Group providing businesses in and around the Port of Tilbury London with the key infrastructure needed to transition to zero emission fleets. The Fleete rapid commercial vehicle electric charging hub will include 4 chargers via the VOLTEMPO™ HyperCharging Megawatt Charging System funded through the eFREIGHT 2030 project, supporting the shift to cleaner, more sustainable transport. This marks an important and exciting step toward building a future-ready, environmentally responsible logistics ecosystem.
Breaking new ground: Fleete powers ahead with major UK commercial EV charging hub We are delighted to announce that construction has begun on our first major charging hub project in the UK. Located at Port of Tilbury, on the River Thames in Essex, this landmark project will deliver what is believed to be the country's largest dedicated commercial vehicle rapid charging hub, with 5MW supplying 16 high-capacity chargers designed for simultaneous HGV use. The pioneering shared-user facility will serve over 60 port-based companies with commercial fleets, while also providing charging services to external logistics companies and freight carriers passing through the port. Backed by £1 million in government seed funding through the Thames Freeport seed capital programme, this strategic investment represents Fleete's commitment to accelerating the UK's commercial transport electrification. It's taken me a while to post this (busy first few months), but I'm delighted to let you know that I've joined VOLTEMPO as Chief Commercial Officer. I'm thrilled to be jumping back into the cleantech start-up world, in an area that can have huge impact towards Net Zero. Despite being only 1% of all vehicles on UK roads, HGVs account for 20% of UK transport emissions. So, Voltempo's mission is to accelerate the adoption and optimisation of electric freight solutions. We help our clients transition to fleet electrification, through our end-to-end service, including site identification, management of complex grid connection and our British designed and manufactured HyperCharging™ Megawatt Charging System (MCS). We work closely with clients for the long-term too, to ensure high reliability and utilisation, and the ability to unlock data for energy and fleet optimisation. Our innovative HyperCharging™ system allows future-proofing of the chargers, through its dynamic charging capability of over 1MVA of power. This patented technology enables the simultaneous charging of multiple vehicles at different charging speeds, allowing for a wide range of fleet operations to be catered for at the same time. It's going to be a very exciting year...we are currently leading eFREIGHT 2030 consortium, that will see the roll-out of over 30 fleet depot HyperCharging™ sites across the UK over the next 12 months. Alongside at least 100 eHGVs from Renault, DAF and Scania. Some of those electric trucks are already on the road (that's one in the photo) and the feedback from the drivers has already been fantastic. Lots to do, but I'm already massively encouraged by the great team at Voltempo and the close collaboration across the transport and energy sectors, to accelerate the take-up of eHGVs. A huge thank you to all of the partners on eFREIGHT 2030, Michael Boxwell and the rest of the Voltempo team, in making me feel so welcome and sharing your invaluable knowledge of the transport and logistics sector. It's amazing to be part of the creation of this new industry and the difference we can all make. Do get in touch if you'd like to know more or check out our website: www.voltempo.com
