We open doors of opportunity for women in Chicago experiencing homelessness.
About us
Believing that everyone has a right to safe, clean and affordable housing, Deborah's Place has been breaking the cycle of homelessness for women in Chicago since 1985. Originally a volunteer-run emergency overnight shelter, today we are Chicago's largest provider of supportive housing for women. The mission of Deborah's Place is to open doors of opportunity for women who are homeless in Chicago. Supportive housing and services offer women their key to healing, achieving their goals and moving on from the experience of homelessness Deborah's Place is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

THANK YOU to everyone who supported our $40 for 40 Giving Day yesterday! Whether you gave, spread the word, or both, you helped us blow our goal out of the water. We went from an initial goal of $4,000 to a grand total of nearly $12,000!!! What a way to celebrate forty years of service. Because of the support of our community, we can look to the future with confidence: we'll be here for as long as women in Chicago need us. The celebrations for our fortieth anniversary continue throughout 2025. Next up: Opening Doors 2025.

Making a bed: then and now. Just a few hours left to give as part of our $40 for 40 anniversary giving day! Our original goal was $4,000... DONE. Now we're pushing for $10,000 and it's within reach. Ask one person in your network to give! Your voice is our most powerful asset. https://bit.ly/3FRiBMi

It's about salad dressing. Stay with us—this isn't an April Fool's joke. Since the beginning in 1985, one of our guiding principles has been the right of each individual to have a choice. As a participant in our programs, you have the right to choose what's right for you—down to which salad dressing you have with your dinner. You are empowered to take control of your life and your path. This image shows two groups of Deborah's Place volunteers: one from the 80s, one from just a few months ago. Our values and our community have always been and will always be at the core of what makes Deborah's Place special, and what makes us so effective at ending homelessness for women. We've already surpassed our initial goal of raising $4,000 for our 40th Anniversary. How about you help us double it? Make your $40 gift here: https://bit.ly/3FRiBMi

TOMORROW: Deborah's Place celebrates exactly 40 years as an official nonprofit entity. Not all organizations endure so long—but we're proud to have seen four decades of service, and all the changes that entails. From an overnight shelter, providing a night's worth of respite to a dozen or so women (left); to today's Permanent Supportive Housing model, providing stability, home, and an opportunity for healing to hundreds of women across the city (right)—many things have changed, but our commitment to the women of Chicago remains the same. Help us celebrate this milestone with a gift of just $40, so we can raise $4,000 on our anniversary! Your contribution is a celebration, a vote of confidence, an investment in a future where no woman experiences the danger and trauma of homelessness. Make your donation here: https://bit.ly/3QTcidz

If there's one thing that remains true no matter what else is going on the world, it's this: we are stronger together. We make change together. The way the world becomes a better place is by (say it with us) working together! Our volunteer founders knew this in 1985, and we know it today. We hope you'll come together with us on April 1st, 2025 to celebrate our anniversary with something special... coming soon: 40 for 40
