NAIOP is dedicated to highlighting successful development product types throughout the Northern Virginia market. Today we heard about and toured Orr Partners' Benchmark at Alexandria. Benchmark at Alexandria is a 115 unit assisted living facility located in the West Alex development in Alexandria, a mixed-use development featuring multiple multifamily buildings, offices, and over 100,000SF of retail anchored by Harris Teeter. This parcel was originally approved as a seven-story office building with ground floor retail. Benchmark Senior Living and Orr Partners acquired the site and obtained approval to pivot to a ten-story senior living building to address evolving market demands for senior housing. DAVIS employees recently attended International Masonry Institute's Masonry Camp, a weeklong collaborative learning experience to deepen their understanding of high-performing masonry and tile projects! This unique experience brought designers and builders together to work on group project, see hands-on demonstrations, and connect with one another. It took an entire team effort to transform an iconic 1970's-era shopping mall into a modern 7-story living space, bringing 321 new residences to Friendship Heights — the first new residential community to open in the neighborhood in more than ten years! Last week, we topped out at the site of new UMD graduate housing in College Park, MD! The 323,000-SF Leonardtown Development will include 741 new living spaces and provide access to the university as well as transit (both current and future, Purple Line fans!). Shout out to the project team including Campus Apartments Mosaic Development Partners JV and Smoot Construction Company of Washington DC for being incredible partners -- let's take it to the finish line 💪
