Happy Earth Day 2025! 🌍🌱 At Arium AE, we believe in the power of sustainable design to positively impact our planet and communities. Our approach integrates value-driven, sustainable principles across architecture, engineering, planning, and interior design. One of our core passions as a firm is adaptive reuse, creating a new life for existing structures and contributing to a more sustainable future. This Earth Day, we’re proud to highlight the vibrant City of Laurel Multiservice Center. We collaborated with the City of Laurel, MD and KCI to transform a once desolate fitness center into a lively multiservice community hub. Through adaptive reuse, we preserved the building structure and reimagined its purpose to serve the local community's needs. The revitalized community center now offers a range of spaces to support various community needs, including a modern gym, sports facilities, alongside an emergency homeless shelter and critical day services for the transient population. We focused specifically on designing flexible spaces that adapt to evolving community needs, making the center a powerful resource for the area. Sustainability is at the core of our work. It is important that we transform the current built environment and create adaptive, community-focused solutions that foster resilience and long-term value. Let’s keep building for a better tomorrow. . . #AriumAE #EarthDay #AdaptiveReuse #Architecture #Engineering #InteriorRenovation #InteriorDesign #AEDesign Brian Frels, AIA, Scott Walthour, PE, Stephanie Bounds Nunn

About us
General Information Arium AE is a mid-sized design firm serving the Mid-Atlantic Region from our Columbia, Maryland, and Vienna, Virginia offices. We emphasize sustainability, elegant design, and outstanding service. Year after year, we are positioned among the top architectural, engineering, and interior design firms in the region. Company Overview When forming Arium in 1988, Timothy J. Sosinski and Stephen W. McLaughlin wanted a name that would not be tied to them and their tenure at the firm. Arium is derived from the Latin term -ārium, used to denote a place associated with a specific function. While both appreciating and promoting good architectural and engineering design, Arium provides functional designs. Although AEs are often considered the experts in design, the clients truly know their day-to-day operations better than we ever could. At Arium, we pride ourselves on being their partners, providing our expertise in construction, materials, building codes, interior design, and LEED projects.

Pro Design Tips for Office Interiors: Accent Walls 🎨🪴 Accent walls are a powerful tool in modern design, adding personality and creating a focal point in any space. Whether through bold colors, unique materials, or meaningful art, accent walls can set the tone of the space and enhance the overall environment. The right combination of color, texture, and lighting can transform a simple wall into a memorable, captivating visual experience. Beyond aesthetics, accent walls can also be functional. For instance, a feature wall in a lobby can convey your company’s story, while in an open office, it can define spaces and encourage collaboration. Adding interactive displays, shelving, or greenery can further boost functionality. ✨ 25 Years of Client Trust & Partnership ✨ At Arium AE, great design is built on strong relationships. Over 25 years ago, we partnered with BA Auto Care to bring forward their vision of an automotive service center in Columbia, MD. From designing their 13,000 SF facility with a complex stormwater system to incorporating architectural details that paid homage to the automotive industry, we built more than just a structure; we built trust. Fast-forward to 2023-2024, BA Auto Care turned to Arium for their latest renovation, an overhaul of the mechanical systems to improve the working environment for employees in the maintenance bay. The result? A seamless upgrade that enhances both comfort and efficiency. We believe great design should be both functional and cost-effective. BA Auto Care expressed that our comprehensive design process was instrumental in transforming their vision into a tangible reality. Additionally, our approach significantly contributed to cost reductions, allowing them to allocate their resources more efficiently. They had initially received an estimate from a contractor much higher than anticipated. After Arium’s design expertise and strategic planning, we were able to reduce the costs of the entire project without compromising on quality. Brian England, President of BA Auto Care shares, “We chose Arium AE to design and oversee our project because of their attention to detail… We have no hesitation in recommending Arium. The quality of service we received 25 years ago has been passed down to the next generation of employees.” We take pride in our long-term client relationships, as BA Auto Care’s continued trust in our expertise is a testament to the quality and commitment we bring to every project. . . #ClientSpotLight #AriumAE #DesignThatLasts #Architecture #Engineering Scott Walthour, PE, Brian Frels, AIA, Stephanie Bounds Nunn
