  • Create CA and WestEd are partnering on a statewide research study to better understand the impact of Proposition 28 funding on arts and music education in California. If you’re involved in arts education, we want to hear from you. We’re surveying arts education leaders—including district and school site administrators, VAPA coordinators, arts teachers, nonprofit and community arts providers, and others—to assess how Prop 28 is shaping the arts education landscape. Your insights and experiences are essential to building a comprehensive statewide picture. The survey takes just 10–15 minutes to complete, and your responses will remain confidential. By sharing your voice, you’ll help inform how arts education evolves across California. Please complete the survey and share it with your colleagues in arts education at the link below! https://lnkd.in/gFu7_TiG Survey open: March–June 2025 Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts Led by WestEd, a nonpartisan research and development agency

• Thank you, Senator Allen, for introducing SCR 32! This measure proclaims March 2025 Arts Education Month and urges all residents to become interested in and fully support quality arts education programs. We need more elected officials to understand and champion arts education, so we ask you to use our handy tool to let your leaders know you care about this issue and urge them to do their part in making sure every child has access to arts classes as mandated by the ed code. Spread the word by sharing our posts with friends and family!

  • Arts education isn’t a partisan issue—it’s a human one. Music, dance, painting, and theater are just as essential to a well-rounded education as reading, writing, and math. Studies show that students with access to the arts perform better academically, develop critical thinking skills, and build emotional resilience. When we invest in arts education, we invest in future innovators, problem-solvers, and engaged citizens. This isn’t about left or right—it’s about giving every student the opportunity to reach their full potential.

  • When students engage in the arts, they don’t just create—they connect. With themselves. With others. With the world. Studies show that arts education deepens understanding of the environment, cultivates empathy, and inspires action. And empathy isn’t just a feel-good trait—it’s essential for democracy, leadership, and a just society. Research highlighted in The Atlantic (“Power Causes Brain Damage”) suggests that as people gain power, they often lose the ability to empathize. Another study published in Art Education shows that arts engagement actively builds empathy and social awareness. The arts help counteract power’s empathy erosion—ensuring we build a future led by people who listen, not just dictate.
